Got up on Saturday and went to grab a design for my 3D printer and discovered my computer unresponsive, spent an hour or so trying to get it to boot up to no avail, went through all the repair options and got nowhere. It is setup dual-boot and W10 booted fine, so a W11 issue rather than hardware I guess.

Left it over the weekend, decided to bite the bullet and do a full reinstall away from my Dev build today while working, but when I rebooted it just loaded up fine, like nothing had happened. Bizarre.
In the last few days my W11 computer went unresponsive several times but didn't have any issues before that.
KB5007215 installed on 11/11 so I'm suspecting that is causing the tendency to just lock up.

Also still have the stuttering mouse issue and some stuttering with music playback.

I wouldn't recommend someone change from W10 to W11 at the moment.

I bought another cheap deskset kit (currently using a Logitech - sorry LOGI ! K545) everything fine for several hours then the stuttering comes back.
The Logi is fine on another machine using W10 so I think its a mouse issue on W11

Checked BIOS and the option is indeed there. Will wait before updating I think
Chicken. laugh
Option isn't there in Windows Update, just tells me my PC is compatible and there'll be some date in the future I can get it

My Ryzen 7 5800h based laptop has informed me that I can now upgrade to Windows 11. As someone who is 100% happy with ten with everything working perfectly, is there actually any point?

Does anybody know how long this option to upgrade for free will be around for?

Probably forever I suspect. 7 to 10 still works last I tried it too.

An in place upgrade has been pretty painless for everyone I know so far but a backup of anything important first is always a good idea. Win 11 definitely seems a little perkier than 10 for me.

The only reason to upgrade really in my opinion is if you want a slight visual overhaul. It does mostly look better, seems to run a little quicker, and has the functionality of "Fancy Zones" baked in, but otherwise, no, there is no point whatsoever, even though I've personally had few issues.

Both my laptop and desktop won't be upgraded anytime soon. Well, they don't fall into that category as the CPUs aren't supported. In all honesty, the laptop should be as it's around 3 years old.

I run a few apps on there that I can't afford to have break. Worst case scenario, if I want a visual overhaul, I'll just side load Linux on the laptop (I'm a big fan of Elementary OS).

ElementaryOS is good im typing on it now, but what annoys me is its out of date, behind the Ubuntu launches.

I've got a Dell XPS Ubuntu edition , original it would only run Ubuntu LTS versions but I swapped to every release, I have now removed Ubuntu and installed Manjaro on it.

OK so the mouse stuttering of W11 is beginning to annoy me because I'm sometimes clicking on the wrong thing because the mouse pointer isn't where it should be, or jumps a few centimetres to another part of the page as I click.

I've checked drivers and am going to try a different mouse and some other things but I think there's something about W11 that's causing mouse lag.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
Found a possible solution: uninstall Norton and let Windows 11's Defender deal with the antivirus stuff.

Since uninstalling Norton all the stutters seem to have gone away, although it's early days at the moment.

Oddly, a near-identical computer with Norton and Windows 10 didn't noticeably have the issues.

It's worth uninstalling Norton regardless anyway. Absolute waste of resources and money really. Unless you have a specific use case scenario to purchase AV/Anti malware, then for 99.9% of people Defender built into Windows is more than adequate at protecting the OS and network activity.

The days of needing third party AV have not existed for several years now.

It's strange how Norton seems to be related to the stuttering on the W11 computer but not the W10 one despite the two computers being virtually identical.

The only differences are:
W10 computer has a Core2 Quad Q8300 processor compared to the W11 having a Core2 Quad Q9400.
W10 computer has a Samsung Evo 860 SSD compared to the W11 having a Crucial MX500 SSD.

So a slightly inferior processor on the W10 machine but slightly superior SSD.
Everything else the same; motherboard, RAM etc.

Both of those processors are much of a muchness against each other and both of those SSDs are SATA and their read speeds are on par as well.

The problem seem will be down to Norton not being optimised for Windows 11.

As I say, bin off Norton, save some money, use Windows Defender and never look elsewhere again because is not necessary at all to do so.

Well it's just offered me an upgrade to W11, but as the other main user (Mrs CanAm) is rather averse to change, my life will be a lot less troublesome if I leave well alone fttb.

Any other user comments from those who've upgraded?

I use both, and marginally prefer 10. TameRacingDriver's comment essentially sums it up. If migrating to 11 will have poor WAF, I don't see a reason to go there.

I have a test W11 VM. Personally I don't like the style, it looks too childish and designed for a tablet feel. It felt slightly slower than a similar W10 test VM but I didn't specifically test performance so it might be the graphics making it appear slower. As above, I can't see any reason to upgrade if you already have a stable W10 installation - if it's working I'd leave it alone as there are plenty of reports of issues with W11.

In any case, if you really want it, I'd wait at least until the summer to upgrade to W11, so MS has time to iron out the issues.

FWIW I've been using 11 for a couple of months on an unsupported i7. No problems or issues whatsoever, and I got used to the few differences very quickly. Performance is at least as fast as10, though the clean install probably helped.

I wasn't sure if Windows Update would work on unsupported h/w, but it does.

Pretty sure that three hours without a response on a Saturday afternoon doesn't mean that there aren't any people who have upgraded without issue.

I've been running since the public release without a single problem, as has almost everybody. As ever with new releases (especially for Windows, for some reason) people seem peculiarly keen to rubbish them and proudly proclaim how they aren't going to upgrade. It's all a bit odd.
