I got a few i1R 2 eos's for friends and family when they've been on offer the last few years for the postage only and they're really good for the size. Really handy to have on the house keys for those occasions where the phone light just isn't enough of inconvenient to use. Never used it for long enough that the battery has run down and so easy to recharge anytime you're sat by a phone charger.

Hi. Any suggestions for a head torch with red light? Looked at Petzl's but as far as I can see you have to keep the button pressed to change from white to red. Looking for something that is red when you switch it on so night vision is not ruined. I used to have a Petzl with a plastic red filter that you could slide over the lens so there was no danger of it being white when you switched it on but they don't seem to have that anymore.

Yeah, my one annoys me when out shooting rats as sometimes I accidentally turn on white light.

Probably down to it only being on offer later on today? There is a countdown timer showing for me for that deal
This.

I jumped the gun a little, available from 8pm tonight for 4 hours.
Almost certainly the correct explanation but I was too busy last week to do anything about it ....

I recently got a headlamp for about £10 from banggood, 18,000 lumens according to the leaflet inside the box! Advert stated 3,000 lumens, reality about 1000 laugh Still a usefull bit of kit, came with 2 18650 rechargeable batteries too.

Has a red light setting which also flashes.

Thanks. Does the red light come on when you first switch the lamp on or do you have to toggle through the settings?
Cheers

A few of the Nitecore headlamps have separate buttons for red light. The NU25 is an excellent option is you don't need tonnes of light, it is crazy lightweight. https://flashlight.nitecore.com/product/nu25

My Petzl retains the red light setting when next switched on. Initially it does require a press and hold, but stays on that setting. It is a few years old though.

Looking for recommendations for a suitable torch for the morning dog walks and accompany a headtorch.

- compact (ish) can put in pockets and forget
- usb rechargeable

Use will be for scanning dark fields before letting the dog off to check for animals so focused light not too important, more emphasis on spread of light.

Budget circa £40

Not in budget (I've used various ones in budget but they're not bright enough), but I can highly recommend the olight perun 2. £89.99

Massive amount of light for such a small unit and very long run times. Depends how far your dog roams if you'll get the benefit of the range and coverage. Our rescue is a roamer the ability to light a large chunk of field or moorland is handy.

It works as a headtorch and a small torch.

Best I've used (and I've used a few when I was doing mountain rescue).

If you just want something really cheap, the led lenser (or copies off Ali express etc) are good enough. Used them a lot during MR. Not huge range though.

I've just bought a couple of very cheap torches for forest foraging from Wish to go with my (too expensive) LEDLenser.

Let's see what turns up smile

Thank you - will take a look. He is a roamer (pointer) but with a combination of rural living, a Ruffwear flashing beacon and a decent head torch I can see him for a good distance. Unfortunately, he roams a long way if he is chasing some (deer, hare etc) so keen to check fields before releasing him.

I keep returning to this thread then go down a rabbit hole trying to find a torch, to no avail!
Perhaps one of you would be good enough to help?

My criteria:
Approx 1500-2000lm
Up to £100
Be good quality and preferably from a well regarded manufacturer.
I would rather pay more and not be manufactured in China.
Simple to use – on/off and perhaps three light levels.
Hopefully be able to alter the pattern of light throw from distance to wide

Must have:
USB charging

Many thanks.

Excellent as a head torch and also very good as a hand torch too - meets (or exceeds) all your criteria except the 'zoom-abilty'. I have the earlier 1000 lumens version and that's excellent - the Perun 2 can only be better
