Why are you disappointed?Screen looks nice, but TBH I'm disappointed
Not much in it weight wise, and the slighly thicker body makes no real difference.

It's sat next to an iPad 2, and the difference is pretty small. Granted only going through setup at the moment, but I was expecting to be blown away.

Will pop down at lunch to view! Not much in it weight wise, and the slighly thicker body makes no real difference.

Best thing about the new iPad is the reduced price of the previous gen models. If I didn't already have a reasonable Android tablet, I'd be very sorely tempted by an Apple refurb iPad2 - bought a few Apple refurbs (iPods), and they've been immaculate.

I'm intrigued - why were you expecting to be blown away? While Apple make out that every new product is the greatest ever, this "only" adds a higher definition screen, faster GPU and a camera vaguely equivalent to a 5 year old Nokia - surely that isn't sufficient to blow anyone away (unless you're, er, very easily blown).

The screen was the big deal, and they've gone to a big effort to get it.Best thing about the new iPad is the reduced price of the previous gen models. You, you tell it what folders to look in, (it is recursive), and you can watch whatever format. If it is .avi, .mkv, etc, you can play with live conversion, (so all the hard work is done off your device),
And if you choose to convert, you can do it from the app, and once converted, add it directly to iTunes if you want, which can all be done remotely, so things are done when you get home.
Doddle.
So essentially it is a middle man for getting hold of the file, and converting it, or converting it and watching at the same time. And if you choose to convert, you can do it from the app, and once converted, add it directly to iTunes if you want, which can all be done remotely, so things are done when you get home.

I guess I need to work some magic on the laptop for the iPad to be able to access them?

Just add the server program, tell it which folders to allow access, and enable remote access. I guess I need to work some magic on the laptop for the iPad to be able to access them?
