Chaps, how do you find the battery life on the phone? (Especially compared to an iphone if anyone had moved that way)
About a billion and twenty times better.

You look at the top and there's like this little bar thing which tells you how much is left. wobble

I have noticed that it diminishes at a much more miserly rate than the one on my 4S... wink
Thanks guys

Is the battery life still far better when using the phone quite a lot or even if you have maps open? (Navigation on the iphone always kills my battery even if it's plugged in!)

Re battery life, anyone got some good experience? Does it last a day easily? Can you generally get a steady day and a half from it? Or do you generally have to get it charged every evening?

I currently have a lumia 1520. There is nothing majorly wrong with it and WP8.1 certainly brings it closer to the current day. But I am finding it a bit too large on a day to day basis. I think 6 inches is 1 too many. 5 is the sweeter spot for me.

Also while 8.1 is rather good I am already getting a bit bored of MS's general tardiness and the fact that major apps still don't get the treatment they deserve on the platform. Add to that Google's actively keeping their apps and services away from the platform.

One thing I do like is the battery life though. 3400mAh battery has some real legs and 2 days is easy to do even with significant daily use. So the M8 interests me, but I can't now go back to iphone levels of stamina!!!

(I am on O2 refresh so upgrading any time is easy!!)

Had my M8 about a week now and came from two iPhones in a row (3G & 4S). Have played with Android phones through work before so was not a total leap in the dark, but I have to say the switch has been completely painless so far, the HTC software for getting contacts etc from your iPhone backup is flawless.

I've got the official car dock which is a very well made bit of kit, automatically enables the car app which is a great feature. I've now effectively got a big touch screen in the car and am streaming my music via a small A2DP BT device connected to aux-in - job jobbed.

One thing I need a bit of advice on is file management. I've just bought a 64GB Sandisk SD card and the Sandisk Optimem app doesn't appear to be working - it's supposed to move apps/media from the phone to the memory card. It tells me it's worked but it hasn't. What does everyone else use to manage their files, I'v downloaded File Manager HD but where does everything live? It doesn't seem as straight forward as the Galaxy S3/S4 which I've played with in the past?
What Bluetooth adapter do you use?

Some 8 quid job off eBay.

Battery life for those asking is way over a day. I'm on the phone half the day as well as surfing in the evenings etc.

That is excellent to hear.

Well, my 1520 may well be going back in its box and put up on ebay. Again its great hardware (if a little large) but I feel its let down by the software in some respects. Its getting much better in many areas, but there is still a way to go and various devs and even MS at times, are very much dragging their feet over various things.

for example IE11 is actually rather very good. All the right functionality is there and its smooth and quick. By contrast, the music app is a complete bag of bks. Its a step back from what they did have on WP8 as games and music, which in itself is apparently a big step back from Zune. I don't know what their train of thought is to be honest, it doesn't make sense.

The battery life is excellent. I average three-and-a-bit days most of the time, and even with very heavy use that only really drops to just under two days. Early on in my ownership I managed five days without charging, though admittedly the phone was only lightly used in that period.

Does anyone know if/how you can download extra language packs ?

I changed the phone's language to Dutch on my One X, but that's not in the list in the M8 so just wondering if i need to download it or something ?

If you keep keep scrolling down the language list do you not eventually get to Netherlands?

It only comes up with English, Spanish and French, whereas on my previous HTC's there used to be a whole listof languages.

Mine has arrived! its bloody big and bloody heavy! will take a bit of getting used to I think! Looks very well made. Not as pretty as the iphones but far nicer than the S5.

Being new to this whole android smartphone business what are the must have apps?

Gents,

Talk to me. Spotify. Stock headphones. Walking. Skiping tracks on a random basis.

So this only happens when walking, not when cycling, or when sitting still. Anyone else experienced anything similar? I feel like it has gotten a lot worse over the last couple of weeks. I am just copying some music to try with doubletwist so I can see if it is Spotify causing the problem.

Also, Arm bands, has anyone bought one? The one for my 1X doesn't fit (well duh!)

Double-tapping the button on the headphone cord skips track. Assume you're accidentally catching it, but only when walking!

Does it now? Could well be that, will test it out.

Got my M8 to replace my One X earlier this week and loving it so far. Couple of questions you chaps might be able to help me with, though...

Where do I find the Nav app on the M8? On the One X, there was an app called Navigation with a blue triangular icon which was pretty good, but I can't seem to find it, or anything similar on the M8.

Also wondering what the icon is in the top bar here between the bluetooth icon and the data icon? It never goes away, yet when I pull down, there's nothing relating to the icon shown. It's bugging me trying to work out what it is!

The icon is for NFC. You can turn it off in Settings.

Google Maps Nav lives as an icon in the car app (car steering wheel). The car app automatically launches and engages bluetooth when you slot it in to the HTC car dock if you have one.

Yup, it's the standard headphones that are the issue. I've tried it out with a couple of other pairs and it seems that the button on these is a little over sensitive.

Just use the 'Maps' application.

Type in where you're looking for and you get the option to navigate there (and choose car, public transport, cycling or walking too). The 'Navigation' application was a little redundant as Maps does it all now.
