Bought 10 head torches for work staff. One adapter exploded and this is what was inside - bloody lethal. All going back for refund. From Ebay.
Prime example why buying these cheap LED torches just isn't worth the risk. Edited by skilly1 on Friday 14th October 10:13
Cheap chargers and adaptors are not as has been discussed many times in this thread.

So I need to get hold of a new torch by the end of the week. I will be going to rural Scotland and obviously need a torch capable of blistering the paint on the hull of a distant trawler. My budget is up to £50 and currently the LED Lenser p7.2 is looking like a decent choice. Is there anything else I should consider?
You could do worse than heading to Aldi and grabbing one of the torches from a few posts up.The Lenser will be very good but you can do better on line for that money. Time is not your friend though.
I have become a firm disciple in the headlight church and would always recommend including one in your torch quiver.
Maplin have some reasonable ones alongside your lenser.
Happy shining.

This thread is huge so can someone offer a torch that is good for dog walking? Colin is a Springer Spaniel so I would like something with a good spread or whatever the term is for general walking, with a range of 30 feet or so when wide. But also something with a big throw that can be adjusted to a spot in case he runs off or I need to see further away for any reason. Also, bright.
So torchies, what do you recommend?
Budget ? So torchies, what do you recommend?
I lik the fenix tk51 for dog walking it does both
flood on low while walking press button momentarily for full throw+flood.
I mainly like it because of the user controls. But it is expensive throw is as much as you need flood isn't as great as some others bit of a jack of all trades etc.

I have been following the various torch threads we have on here and have mostly had cheap torcjes which I use in my job as a surveyor and when walking the dog. And then I decided to take the plunge and on then strength of a review in a walking magazine one of these popped through the letterbox yesterday.
It's BRILLIANT....
I turned into a kid and wanted to do evrything at home last night by torchlight. For a double AA torch to be putting out 245 lumens is impressive enough on paper, but taking my black dog out down a dark lane it was wonderful! This whole torch game is potentially addictive!
And a note of recommendation for http://www.ledfiretorches.co.uk/index.php
what good service in terms of delivery speed and communication.
It is 5 years since I started this thread almost to the day and by coincidence I grabbed the torch that triggered it to walk the dogs down a dark lane. Its interesting to reflect on what its like in the face of all competition from the rest of my box of torches. It's BRILLIANT....

It doesn't focus. Its not paint blistering bright. Its light and slim.
I found that it was just great to walk the dogs in the twilight down the lane. Walking a cross the dark golf course it wouldn't be so good. Answer, take several torches.
What this thread has shown is just how much expertise and knowledge is within the PH congregation and how easily people share.

We had a interesting night here tonight at pugh towers.
Just as we were siting done to eat our take away fish and chip supper, we had a power cut.
Western power had been working on the local three phase supply up the road, and you guessed it, we were one of the few houses on the one phase that failed!
So from about 18:30 to just now ( 21:15) we were in darkness.
And these little cheap puppies from amazon totally cam to our rescue.
Heres what i bought, intended for a rally camping trip later this week.
Two for less than £20, so about a tenner each and they are brilliant ( no pun intended !)
Ah bigger. I don't have any lanterns. Find I Need some of those.Just as we were siting done to eat our take away fish and chip supper, we had a power cut.

I've got a few of these and they've been great. Our village has no street lighting so it can be extemely dark wandering down the pub etc.
Having the red light is handy as it can be used as a rear light when walking in a group, much more visible to traffic than a point of white light which can oftem be mistaken for a headlamp reflection.
Wow, that really IS nerdy torch rambling at its most professional. Well done.Having the red light is handy as it can be used as a rear light when walking in a group, much more visible to traffic than a point of white light which can oftem be mistaken for a headlamp reflection.

Depends what 'best' means to you. As there are probably 1000's of different models available.
Personally never understood the fascination with Fenix models. They seem to be the BMW M3 or Porsche 911 of the flashlight world. I.e .the brand people buy just because other people have.
Personally the Astrolux A01 is a very good AAA light and has 2 big things over pretty much any Fenix. Neutral white emitter with high CRI and a moonlight mode.

And if I'm honest, I rather like the Maglite Solitaire LED. Very versatile beam and slim.
Damm, got one of those Astrolux jobs on the way. How did that happen ?Personally never understood the fascination with Fenix models. They seem to be the BMW M3 or Porsche 911 of the flashlight world. I.e .the brand people buy just because other people have.

Also to myself looking forward to getting,in the same order, a transparent padlock and lock pick set that popped up on a popup!

I was recently really impressed with my Convoy C8! Nicely made and a good weight etc, then I took it out into the actual field. Do people generally walk their dogs on lawns? It's rubbish unless you want to show someone how bright your torch is 2 metres away.
Are we talking about the same light? I was lighting up houses over 300m away and don't know what the actual range is as I ran out of open space, not candelas.I have some super duper 14500 (AA) batteries warming up in the charger for them and there is no reason you can't run them on those.
I got mine from Torchy the Battery Boy via his ebay shop.
These in fact.

Are you sure about that? Those batteries you've linked are 3.7v whereas it uses AA batteries which are 1.5v. I know it says they are AA size but I wouldn't be putting those Li-ion rechargeable in. Willing to be corrected.
Use them in my other AA powered torches with no apparent problems. However, it would be good to know if I'm going to be incinerated at some point whilst walking the dogs. I get my amps and volts all jumbled up.
