ok so DACs are not headphone but I thought this might be a good place to ask.

I use a laptop with in a dock when at home and and the only think that is not on the dock is a headphone port i'm lasy this is one more thing to plug in so would people recommend a USB DAC and head phones or blue tooth headphones?

yep first world problems.
Depends what you’re trying to achieve.

Bluetooth phones are convenient and you can use them on the go with your laptop, phone etc. Some are very good but all are limited fundamentally by Bluetooth audio compression. There are various different algorithms and some are near lossless but only if you have supporting kit. If you are an Apple user for example then you are limited to 250kbps AAC.

A USB DAC and wired phones would allow you to achieve much higher levels of sound quality at the expense of convenience.

If you aren’t striving for high sound quality (which generally involves spending) then you might find your needs are met by bluetooth phones.

Personally I have both high-end wired phones and DAC, and Bluetooth phones, because I think they both have their advantages. For commuting and air travel I use Bluetooth phones. In my home office when I’m tethered to a desk I use an external DAC and wired.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly but I use an Audioquest Dragonfly black USB DAC/headphone amplifier with Musical Fidelity MF100 headphones in my laptop and they are fantastic. The only thing is the I find it a bit loud!

Betron

Cheap, great warranty, amazing build quality and noise cancelling.

Look at the reviews. Brilliant earphones for the money

I'm thinking of getting these for Xmas:

https://www.whathifi.com/sennheiser/pxc-550-wirele...

Sennheisser PCX550

They seem to tick every box and get 5/5 from What HiFi magazine. I tried them on at the airport and could barely feel them.

£240

I’m looking to get the wife some headphones for Christmas, need to be a bit girly so I’m thinking these in the curry’s sale: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/audio-and-headphones...
I ended up getting her some Bose headphones from Costco for £120 instead of the Beats: https://www.bose.co.uk/en_gb/products/headphones/o...

See what she makes of them on the Christmas holiday flight...

They are a bit strange. Overly processed sound IMO.

i don't normally get on with in ears but Nura's are not at all uncomfortable or painful.

The tech. definitely works and they are great for flights, even better since they released the noise cancelling firmware. I like being able to increase the bass rumble when watching films as well.

Main issue for me is the same as most headphones - not comfortable for extended periods [the cup part, not in ear] and the sound just isn't that amazing. For a commuter set of cans, travel etc. though they are pretty decent and have replaced my B&W p5's for that purpose. Very little leakage so you can have it cranked yet noone can hear.

I just ordered a pair of custom in ear monitors. Having impressions taken Saturday and then should be 4-6 weeks turnaround. Hoping they sound as good as I hope as its not like I can sell them on...

eta - nuraphone bass is very immersive, going through the outer cup and transmitting via vibration. Its very weird at first. I have pretty big ears and it vibrates them when cranked, odd, but great for movies. i just checked and they are $400 now. i paid 200 on kickstarter. They serve a purpose but i very much doubt i could justify them at current rrp. far better alternatives out there.

You can sell them on, many companies offer re-shelling.

Good to know, but hoping it doesnt come to that. These and a hiby r6 is hopefully the end of my portable audio spending for a long while.

I bought some XM3s for a trip to Canada recently and they were great, good app too. A little pricey though.
