Wowsers... I thought my entire system averaging 350w was high - not something you want to leave running 24x7 with energy prices at current levels. FourWheelDrift said:

Yep and that's stock FE. 666W sustained with OC.It's going to be interesting to see whether the AIB cards will be able to push the power limit any higher than that. That was one of the main selling points of AIB vs. FE in previous gen (for overclockers) but might not be the case now.

They are surprisingly efficient (comapred to 3090) when you lock performance, according to Hardware Unboxed:

.. almost half the power for equivalent performance. Bodes well for the lower end cards whenever they come.

I have 3840 x 1600 qhd ultrawide 144hz. I reckon the 4090 will be worth it.
They sold out in less than a second on nvidia.com. I was there at exactly 2pm. Refreshed. Out of stock at 13:59.59 and then Buy Now at 14:00.01. clicked it and it just stumbled and never followed through.
My life will go on just fine but its interesting to see that after the chat about having much more stock this time, vastly reduced Eth home mining and the high price tag made zero difference. Demand vastly vastly out stripped supply.

Never buy straight away anyway, let others discover the problems first. 3000 series and 2000 series had problems and failures on launch, the early 2080 Ti FE models were defective - https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/279765-nvidias-...
Never be the guinea pig.

lots of other brands available which means you don't have to buy the utterly awful looking founders edition They sold out in less than a second on nvidia.com. I was there at exactly 2pm. Refreshed. I wouldn't call it awful looking, I think it looks a lot smarter than most of the 3rd party offerings. I've got a 3090 FE and the second you open the box you know it's a well engineered piece of kit.except when you click the links they are not available .... /doh

Very likely they will artificially limit supply until more of the 3000 series stock has been sold. They want people to buy the old cards as well as keep up the prices of the 4000s.They sold out in less than a second on nvidia.com. I was there at exactly 2pm. Refreshed. I'm in the opposite boat. The AIB models are dreadful looking. FE looks quite slick IMO.except when you click the links they are not available .... /doh

I have owned 3 x 3090 founders editions and still own one. They are seriously quality looking cards. Look far better than any other AIB I have owned. 2080ti FTW3 Ultra by EVGA. Rog Strix 2080ti or whatever else. The build quality and pure CHUNK of GPU that is a 3090 Founders is top end. Maybe from a strict "stand back and look at them all on a shelf" you may not appreciate them if that is your taste but in your hand there is no doubt the current founders editions and 30 series founders edition design entirely nailed it.

Yeah, I've got a 3070FE and build quality/aesthetics are outstanding (obviously nowhere near as chunky as a 3090 though). Far superior to the typical overdone, gaudy 'sci-fi military' look that many third party offerings have.Upon seeing a lot of 4090FE reviews, it really does look like an impressive offering in comparison to the previous gen equivalent. It's 'only' $100 more than the 3090 (which admittedly was maybe crazily priced itself) but offers a hell of a lot higher max performance if you hav the PSU .. and much lower power consumption for the same level of performance.
I'm much less impressed with the pricing and word games with the 4080 12/16Gig models. I'm sure that the performance will be great but they mark a massive price hike for the xx80 cards and really the 12Gig model should have been called a 4070 (but would look even more like gouging).
My guess is that they will hold off on lower spec RTX 40xx models until the RTX3000 series backlog is cleared out. As I said, something like a card with 3080 level performance with <=250W consumption at around the £450 level would be very appealing to me.

Only a $100 more than a 3090FE? Or you in the US? Here it’s £300 dearer than the 3090FE was at launch. I see Nvidia are really trying to clear out the 3090Ti and 3080Ti. Both discounted and “Featured” cards on the Nvidia store. They’ve limited the 3090Ti to 5 units per person in the US at $1049.99, I know they’d like people to buy 5 at a time but who in their right mind would be doing that following the 40 series launch?!?
I’m sitting on the fence until AMD reveal their line up but if the 4090 comes out on top I’ll probably pick up a 4090FE when Jensen finally allows the wider public to start buying them. Was watching the Nvidia UK store yesterday and the 4090FE literally went out of stock in 3 seconds. Absolutely mental, though I don’t believe they released much stock of the FE, possibly only a couple of hundred units.
