I'm going to order a 8 tomorrow, but want to ensure I have a case sorted for it's arrival. I used to have the following, but they are not making them for the 8 (yet). Any recommendations for something similar?

Also, screen protector required? I got mine fitted at apple before and it's been great.

Isn’t the 7 identical to the 8? 6S will still have headphone cutout.
Didn't see the 7 option earlier! I'll get that then.
Turns out it's only the horrible blue in stock for the 7, back to the drawing board.

Well, rush of blood to the head found me in John Lewis handing over £799 for a 64 GB 8 Plus.

I have an 8+. I was a bit meh about the whole thing - I bought out my previous contract to pass my 6S to my daughter and got this instead.

I'm actually very impressed - speed, yes - it's probably quicker. Battery life better.

Cars look great on it - and really, that's all that matter :-)

I was a bit meh, coming from a 6+ that a buddy offered me £250 for - but it’s really grown on me. Battery is epic, 3 days +, as is the camera and it’s super speedy, too. Rather pleased, actually.

I've come from a 6, whilst it's very similar, it's just quicker to use, camera is better and it lasts ages. Definitely worth upgrading, and I don't regret not waiting for the X.

My missus has gone for the 8, 64gb with Virgin. £29 a month, free handset, 1.2GB a month. Downside is the 3 year contract. She only uses about 300MB a month anyway.

Both of these would have been cheaper just buying the phone outright and taking a monthly sim-only deal. You can then change plans up or down without penalty.

Is it just the aspect of "easy credit" that appeals on these?

Initially I was a bit meh as well, the six was still pretty good to be fair but this thing is ballistic, the way web pages load is so fast, screen is better, not night and day but definitely an improvement.

The camera is very good, the extra screen of the plus worth having and they now dont look so stupidly huge, remember a mate getting a six plus when the sixes came out, bear in mind everyone was still on 4's and 5's, he did get asked why he had brought his telly in to work etc, now just seems normal.

I just thought it was time to upgrade as mien is three years old and still perfect so has a decent value still, leave it another year and they will have dropped, sort of an optimal time to move, still will get £200 or so, paid £600, got over three years out of the old one, so has cost me £400 over the term and been used every day, just over a tenner a month I reckon it has cost me (work pay the bills)

Or just use Apples own upgrade offer that’s 0% on the phone and shop around for any sim only plan you want cobra kid would have been on a £5 a month sim for 500mb!

No it wouldn’t hence me going for it. Unless you can find me a sim only deal for £17/month that gives 18gb data and ‘free’ spotify.

My last phone was bought outright and now was the best time to change as the residual value would have only gone further down with the X coming out

Here you go - Vodafone Red Entertainment 25GB + Spotify for £15.75/month after cashback.

Yeah. the battery life is great. Not having to charge every night feels odd. Great phone, so far.

Fair play. Little uncertain about the cashback but will look into it. Thank you.

Maybe I miscalculated your figures? 24 x £51 per month, £60 up front, and that's after £125 allowance for the old phone?

Works out at £1409, for a £799 phone, so 610/24 = £25.41 per month?

It works out as £51 per month and that includes the £60 split over 24 months;

£64 per month (reduced to £54 after VA discount)
=£1296

£60 for the phone

=£1356

-£125 for old phone

= £1231 overall cost over 24 months.

Take away £799 cost of handset new

=£432

/24 =£18 (I’ve rounded up somewhere along the line)

AND after all that I’m tempted to get the X...

Ah, that makes more sense. I reckon your plan 'cost' is really a fiver a month (about £23) more because you've used the £125 from the old handset against it.

As we're talking about deals mine is as follows.

iPhone 8+ 64GB - £799.
Three Contract - £17.35*24 = £416.40

Total over 2 years = £1215.40
Amortised: £50.60

I usually keep my phones for 3 years so my actual monthly cost is ~£39 a month.

Not the greatest deal on the planet but it was the cheapest that fit my requirements when I purchased the phone on launch day.
My contract allowance is 2000 minutes, 2000 Three to Three minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data + 30GB of tethering plus free foreign usage with Three Feel At Home.

I also haven't included the money I would get if I sold my iPhone 6+ which is currently sitting in a drawer.

To get the iPhone 8+ but on a standard contract would cost this:
iPhone 8+ 64GB - £79.00.
Three Contract - £70*24 = £1680

Total over 2 years = £1759
Amortised: £73.20

wax lyrical

I bought a used, mint 7-plus (256gb) for £500 and have a Vodafone contract at £20/mth (16gb of data included). This will do me until I upgrade to the XI in a couple of years. The 8 is really just a '7s' in disguise, not a new IPhone.

It was the near £XXX up front that decided us. We don't have it sat there to just see it disappear. We did the sums and this is the easier hit for us. Plus the phone is covered now for three years. Plus we went through Quidco so got £75 back on it.

But yes, I get your point.
