RIP iPod Classic

Luckily I have 2 160GB Classics. One in the car, one in the house. Wouldn't be without one as they are great things.
Was toying with the idea of 128GB SD Card for the car (Mk7 Golf) but unsure if it would take this

Anyone know?
Just found this on the web, really interesting Was toying with the idea of 128GB SD Card for the car (Mk7 Golf) but unsure if it would take this

Guide to setting up SD card for the MK7 Golf
I've used a recent itunes install to manage the music on 1st gen ipod touch, 1st gen shuffle (the stick of gum type) and a 3rd gen ipod aka ipod dock connector which must be about 10 years old.
You can't update the OS on the devices but itunes will still let you move your music about. I doubt support for living with an ipod classic will go any time soon.

Just found out about this - what a shame. I still have an 8 year old ipod video in service... the only thing missing was a wifi connection so you could stream with airplay etc. That's the only reason I also bought a 64gb ipod touch, but would have preferred the higher capacity classic. I think they missed a trick! There aren't many high capacity options, and I am stuck with itunes anyway!
The answer to why it's officially gone has come out this morning...

So you can tell me where I can get a disk for my 5th generation iPod without resorting to some dodgy eBay offering.
You can still get them new at loads of repair shops. Try Rapid Repair in the US for example. They aren't cheap though and this isn't the point, sales dropped off to the point that there was no point tooling up with new suppliers to keep producing them.
Apple want to push people to the touch or iPhone instead so they can take advantage of the revenue from the Apple Store on the device.
I only use mine as an add on to the head unit in my car and when it dies it'll be replaced by a micro SD card. They cost little and hold huge amounts of music and you don't need to use iTunes to transfer music on to them. Much better.

Any news on a possible replacement that isn't called a 'Touch' or whatever they've 'replaced' the Classic with?
I love my 160GB Classic but its battery isn't too clever nowadays, which is a shame. I think it's going to have to be retired soon. Sad times
Put a new battery in it for ten quid?I love my 160GB Classic but its battery isn't too clever nowadays, which is a shame. I think it's going to have to be retired soon. Sad times
Very happy to have my 120gb Classic as well. I must admit that I haven't added any new music onto for a good few months, but it really is amazing at how much it can hold.
I suppose its kind of like manual gearboxes in cars, there are the minority that want them, but the demand is for the newer high tech things so that's what the company moves to.

Funnily enough, mine sits in my manual gearbox car and, when it doesn't crash, it does its job well, but unlike the manual gearbox, it is difficult technology to defend against the new. It's just too slow to connect and it struggles if you try to skip several tracks at once. I'll keep using it until it dies though.

Why spout that kind of nonsense, iPod (and MP3 player) sales are dwindling, just say the market has moved on.
Apple could make a much better iPod Classic if it wanted, SS memory is more efficient, smaller and cheaper than ever, battery tech the same.
They just won't make a million bucks doing it as most people buy either a tablet/smartphone or a cheap MP3 player.
So what are Apple expecting people to use instead of ipod classics? Not everyone has an iphone and they only have a small amount of storage in comparison anyway? The other ipods are just toys too in comparison in terms of storage.
Whilst I do have an mp3 player in my phone, the only interface is via the headphone socket which is never a quality interface, whereas my ipod connects natively with my hifi and head unit in the car.
It seems a little odd that they've not invented an upgrade path. I was just thinking of getting a larger capacity one too, but I don't want to get locked into obsolete tech, assuming I can find one.

Forgot to pick up a spare when the news was announced, regretting it now...
