Speed up Windows 10?

Despite the warning about not turning it off, I have indeed powered them off in that state...
Which usually solves the problem.
Right thanks. It's now come back to life after showing that screen for 65 minutes.Which usually solves the problem.
I'm returning the laptop today Because Windows 10. It's simply not fit for purpose imo.
I expect the operating system to be configured at point of purchase and not for me to spend considerable time constantly re-configuring it.
It's probably done a mass of updates, most likely including the infamous anniversary update.
If it's not SSD equipped, then the time taken (that you state) doesn't surprise me in the least.
Windows 10 does seem hideously slow on every non SSD PC I've worked on.
But you are right of course - it is ste.
/haters gonna hate lol

Good morning, my 10 day old basic Acer has been showing this for the past 40 minutes. Is there anything I can do?
There's your problem, bought a cheap ass machine and expect it to work well!Next you will purchase a £1400 Macbook and then tell us all how much better the macbook is compared to your last Windows machine.

Many years ago I bought a (then) expensive Dell laptop which packed up just out of warranty and I swore I'd never pay good money again for a laptop. Since then I've bought a new lappy for £250 every 2-3 years. These are for work in a garage environment and they get a bit of hard use. Like Windoze PCs seem to, they normally grind to a slow crawl after a couple of years, hence the latest purchase.
Anyway, despite being a similar-but-updated spec, the new one just takes the piss, and so I shall persevere with the old one (on which I am typing this out).
I might have thought the old one a bit slow but it never took 65 mins to do anything, never mind just start up.
I've spent this morning wiping the new laptop ready for returning and giving the old one a good clean (outside and in) and fact is, the old 250 quidder is faster than the new one.
