Got part way through installing it and now the self-acclaimed retards at Apple have made it lock me out unless I plug it in to iTunes. Epic, just what I wanted to be doing at 10pm. Utter, utter s.
So, my phone has gone from being a brilliant device, to a flaky one, to an unusable piece of crap in six months. Impressive.
ETA: so faffed around firing up laptop, hit iTunes with a hammer and now have phone plugged in to PC. Nice of Apple to assume I've:
a) got a PC to hand and
b) run their iTunes joke on it.
Anyhow, phone now updating via their iTunes and I get this staggeringly encouraging message.....
iPhone ipdating. Time remains: 82 minutes"
I mean, really, Apple, really 82 minutes? This is cutting edge is it?
fktards.
(And no, it's not my connection speed)

Does seem to have improved things though.
Just updated my iPad2 which seemed to go ok, albeit a little slower than I have expected, and clearly Apple have no idea what a second is, as the time remaining information was haplessly inaccurate.
Some of the clunkiness that it was suffering from on 8.02 has gone, but still really slow compared to how it used to perform on 7.whatever it was.
Still doesn't remember saved passwords, etc..
The big question is, keep the ipad2 or pick up Air2 whilst out in Hong Kong next week??

Be on your guard if wanting to update via PC and your I tunes has already updated to 12.01.26. In some cases (mine ) I tunes no longer 2sees your device though the PC does. In my case I had to de install the I tunes install an earlier version then rename an earlier library so it opened. I then went into the I phone tab and updated that taking all of 8 minutes then updated the I tunes. It sounds daft but it isn't and it seems to be affecting users on both windows and mac.

When I de installed the new I tunes then installed the old the library wouldn't synch as I got the message saying the library was created with a newer version of I tunes. I got round it by finding an older library and renaming it.

8.1 went on clean and easy. iPad Air and iPhone 5S. Haven't attempted the wife's iPad 2 yet.
Point to note...to the chaps having trouble...how much memory is in your phone? My wife's iPhone 5 has just 16GB and in order to do an upgrade it invariably requires plugging into iTunes. In theory if you had nothing on it at all the upgrades might go on...but with her collection of music and apps - no chance.
I maxed out the memory on both of my devices (and the historic ones, in fact) and I don't seem to get any problems at all. Maybe it's that causing it?
