Agh, so we've probably done the which ISP gives you the best service.

What I want to know is which one gives you a FREE modem that ISN'T Usb as I want it to plug directly into my linksys wireless router jobby.

The way NTL works is ideal... but I'm investigating other possibilities !

Cheers,
Chris

If you are plugging it into a router, then you don't need any modem...period!

I have my splitter in the ADSL socket with one line going to the phone and the other (ethernet cable) going to the back of the router.

You always need a modem. However, some routers have the modem electronics built in (or allow one to be added via a known interface).

However, you're right, it'd be easier just to pick the best provider then pick up a cheap wireless router with integrated ADSL modem.

The other option is to do it the NTL way and get a package which includes an ADSL router (then connect the ADSL router to your existing router using a cross-over cable)

It has a built in modem so any isp can be used (even AOL can be fudged apparently)

This is what we do at my parents house, it goes straight from the Modem via normal Cat5 (not cross over) to the clever little linksys router that has 4 ports + wireless.

The problem I'm worried about getting for my flat to be when I move in next week is ending up with a USB modem... so need to get phoneline broadband (as I don't really like NTL) that comes with a Cat5 connection on the modem.

Just had a Guy install the BT Yahoo! 2Mb and He got a Router with a LAN and USB option. Recommended option was LAN and the software wanted LAN as well.
