Anyone using hdmi over single cat6?
Discussion
As per the title, trying to set it up but can't get a link across the cat6.
We have it hdmi into Extender, which is plugged into a cat6 link lead, that plugs into a wall socket that runs approx 15m to the network cupboard, where another link lead plugs into the hdmi extended box there.
All cable at quality cat6, used a cable tester to validate the cables and I can wire my laptop to the router successfully.
I just can't get the hdmi over cat6 to pass a signal across. Using a single cat6 plugged into each works, so it isn't a failure within the Extender boxes.
The cat6 cable routes through the house, but do pass near a few power cables... But nothing dramatic /excessive.
Is the hdmi signal particularly weak? Is it sensitive enough that a few faceplates and/or power cable could disrupt it?

I've used a couple of HDMI<>single Cat5e+ converters; one was good quality, but had problems when something suddenly drew current from the mains (welding really stopped it working) - this one had a gain control, but eventually died.
The second one recodes it (rather than translates it), so it's a bit blurry (mainly with gradiated colours), and the audio is slightly laggy. However, it's still working, and doesn't suffer from mains spikes.
I think I'm running over a 15m cat5e cable, and it does zig zag around mains cables.
What converters are you using?

I have a set of generic HDMI extenders with IR blasters. The run is approx 12M allowing for slack.
Source is split into TV then out over Cat 6. Never had a problem. I have also put these in a customers house with a run of approx 20m and never had a problem. Well except for when the Sky so called engineer changed a box over and didn't put it back together properly.

It's a cheap one, under the 'synic' brand. I have ordered the more expensive "Neet" one to try to tomorrow.
I also found that the unbranded "CAT6 link lead" cables are likely to be cat5. Linking the two of boxes together with one of these link leads stops the "link" light flashing, but no picture comes through.
Even testing with a good quality cat5e cable has some pictures being shown(showing it is better quality then th 'CAT6') , though the picture is badly broken. Hoping tomorrow to go to maplins to buy a crimp tool (left mine at home) to build my own known quality cat6 to try, and then try again with the neet branded extenders.
Edit: how much interference is a couple of faceplate couplings likely to create?

Just checked - the first one I bought was a Cablesson HDElity HDMI 3D Extender Single Cat5/6, and the second one is an Ex-Pro 120m AV-Pro Extender HDMI.
When I move to a new house, I'll make sure I can either put dual Cat6 through, or even a full HDMI cable.
I'm not familiar with your one, though (isn't it Esynic?)

Sorry yes it is esynic!
Having already proved the 2 link leads are less then cat5e quality though, I hope to replace them tomorrow as my first attempt to improve the situation.
I have a few metres spare of professional grade cat6 (matching the stuff throughout the house) which I'll make up and try.

Damn crimp tool from maplins was a piece of st and I couldn't crimp the ends onto cat6 spec rj45. Means I can't default to a single cable between Extenders.
Replaced the sockets with cat6 spec ones, and used genuine cat6 certified cables from maplins, but still couldn't get a damn link between the hdmi Extenders.
Now ran out of ideas, hopefully the neet Extender will arrive later and I can try that!
Wishing I'd just ran bloody hdmi cables everywhere now! Luckily I did in the lounge at least.

The little switches are unlikely to be boosters, they will adjust the EDID and HDCP settings of the hardware.
Usually you use them to force the screen and player to operate at a fixed standard rather than letting them to try to negotiate the settings themselves. Remember how fax machines used to chirp to each other to make sure they talked the same language, the same thing happens with EDID and HDCP to ensure they are compatible.
With newer HDBT based systems we have never had problems with patch panels and faceplates, it was only the earlier generic (none HDBT) ones that could have issues.

As it has been a year since your question was posted, you may have solved the issue .................... reading through your post, in particular
"The cat6 cable routes through the house, but do pass near a few power cables... But nothing dramatic /excessive."
Would i be correct in assuming you are connecting to existing Cat6 cable which is part of your home network? if so, for using HDMI over Cat6 you're connection must be a direct link, thus meaning "separate from your network" or it will not work. Some HDMI adapters will resort to a network mode if it detects this type of activity. Do not connect to network switches etc, that you would use for home networking, computers etc ....... To transmit HDMI signal (Video/Audio) requires a direct link between the source and receiving devices "only".
I hope this helps
Sorry to drag up an old thread, but has anyone used something like these? Seems an incredibily cheap option if they work. Although there's still the issue of IR control to sort out.

Cheers, I note these won't work with Powerline adapters, but watching this video (at 25:26) he does get these ones working fine? Are these any different to those you linked?
