Hi there, as the title says I'm wanting to retro fit a wireless device to my single garage door opening, the opener has two pins that when connected briefly will open the door, stop and close it in a round robin fashion.

The two pins don't need any voltage, just a momentary connection.

Any experience on what works in this scenario would be appreciated.

There is an alternative of an open, close and stop connections that don't need additional voltage, they just need joining to various pins.

Close = 17 joined to 19
Open = 17 joined to 21
Stop = 17 joined to 23

Can be done with a Raspberry Pi, if you fancy a project. there are plenty of tutorials

Also using a Meross one.

The website indicates it can't be used on a certain type of system, however there is a workaround that has been working for me now for over a year with no problems.

Care to share the workaround and a link to the manual.

The tuya one works perfectly, and includes a magnetic contact so you can verify the door has actually closed, not just hope that it has.
If your house alarm covers your garage and you want to open the door when you arent in to receive a parcel or whatever remember to omit that zone, or fit a relay board to shunt out the garage sensor whilst the opener curtosy light is on.

Thanks I've gone for the Tuya one as it comes with a sensor to verify the door has closed, thanks all.

Out of interest... how secure are these? Compared to a standard radio fob of course

good point, I might just utilise the bluetooth and not the wifi, although anyone is welcome to the C$%p stored in my garage!

Do you have a link of where you got it from?

Thanks

I did something very similar. My 15 year old garage door stopped responding reliably to the wireless controllers, so needed a solution that was cheap.

The control panel for the door has a couple of connectors which you "short" with some wire and it will open or close the door. Most garage door control units are very similar if you check the instructions for them. All the rollertec/thermaglide/securoglide type doors all use the same panels.

In which case, this does the job perfectly:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09V11RC84

(I see this is unavailable, but this looks identical with a case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/MHCOZY-Wireless-Control-C...

Add a usb power source, a couple of wires and I can now "ok google, open garage door" etc from anywhere in the world.

It uses the Tuya app and paired with a big button like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09VDFNTRN I now have wifi/voice control over the door and can open from anywhere in the world.

Not sure I would be comfortable with this personally as anyone can shout this through your letterbox.....

What would that achieve?

Are people known to shout that through letterboxes on the off chance the one in 5 million houses in the UK that might have this function is one they shout through?

I was thinking more what would the insurance say if you did get burgled.

Agree it's not so much of an issue if the garage is full of 'stuff'

Re shouting shouting through letter boxes, Alexa needs a voice PIN as well as the instruction - open the main garage door.

can confirm, just set up the Tuya device, and 10mins wiring it up, added the app, works briliantly

opening needs a pin number enabling.
