Can anyone recommend a nice mouse? And also a standalone USB number pad. I'm sick of all this Chinesium/Amazon/Race to the bottom plastic crap. I'm currently setting up a new computer and having to use an awful laggy, unergonomical plastic mouse. I don't need cheap cheap cheap all the time. Does anyone except Apple make nicely designed/built things? This is mainly for working with a W10 computer.

I have an old Macbook Pro and I love it's metallic solidness. Would Apple peripherals work with the Windows machine.

There are lots of decent mice but they are mainly designed with gaming in mind. I have a Razer DeathAdder V3 (wired but the Pro version is wireless). Vaxee, Zowie and top end Logitech are also high quality mice from a gaming perspective.

I have used Logitech for some time now. M/MX series has lots of good features and well made. G series a bit gamier with extra bells and whistles if you like that sort of thing. Work really well with matching keyboards too.

Thanks guys. Yeah, not too bothered about bells/whistles. Just well built/designed. Maybe something that isn’t so, plasticky…

Will check out the recommended ones though.

Cheers

Steelseries Sensei Ten mouse (meaning heaven, not a number) - £40 at Amazon - link

For numeric pad, as I swear by Filco Majestouch mechanical keyboard, maybe a Filco TenKeyPad 2 from the Keyboard Company - link

You can choose which Cherry switch colour the Falco's come with

Other numeric keypads at the bottom of this page

I use a 3DConnexion Cadmouse for work: https://3dconnexion.com/uk/cadmouse/

Pretty no nonsense - full 3 button mouse with scroll wheel, plus a couple of extra feature buttons. Very solid, with a heavy metallic base.

Not cheap though!

Now you're talking! Thanks.

The hateful little plastic mouse I'm using is wireless. Is that why it's so laggy? Better to go wired?

For gaming I used the Sensei wired. On my Macs I use wireless, I can live with a slight lag

Is the Sensai Ten made of steel as the name implies? Doesn't say on the link.

It seems to me that for such simple devices like a mouse or keyboard, which generally just sit on your desk and is the first point of contact between user and system, that there would be a market for high quality products made of materials like metals/wood/ceramics etc. Yet everything seems to be nasty plastic with MOAR flashing lights.

Is it just me?

Nah, soft-touch plastic, but it's a quality item

Logitech MX Masters for me - had them for years, even bought one to use at work as I like it so much and prefer it.

Razer have one of the worst quality reputations out there. Anecdotally, the boy's on about his third warranty replacement of a DAP and both Razer laptops in our house have required battery replacement. This is very typical.

Logitech is what we used to provide when I was a sysadmin and what I have used professionally and personally for decades. I think my current wireless mouse and keyboard are knocking on a decade old and still perfect. I think I've only charged the mouse batteries once, too.

For what it's worth, the aforementioned hateful mouse I'm currently using is indeed a Logitech. There's no questioning the durability of the thing. It must be a decade old at least and I can't remember changing the batteries. It's like a cockroach. So not knocking the brand, it does it's job admirably. If I were setting up a call centre I'd buy a thousand of the things.

It's just so, well... st. It's all creaky noisy horrible plastic, quite a long press to activate the buttons, and as mentioned, bit of a weird lag. And seems to move slightly once positioned but before a press, which again is annoying. I want something aesthetically and ergonomically pleasing for my personal home use.

I've had one die (common double clicking problem with some of their previous models) but it was pretty old. Ergonomically I find the wired DeathAdder perfect though so I don't really care if I need to replace it with another one at some point.

Maybe the answer is a really fancy Logitech, if one exists?

Sort of a Lexus LFA to your current Aygo, to keep it PH. laugh

Looks like they certainly do an ISF, if not an LFA

Yes, just about, which is why it's not economic to design & make peripherals from materials like that like those. How much would you pay for your mousey nirvana?

Logitech g502, one of the best mouse ever made, Black Friday deals are about £30 just now, had mine for 4 years now and it hasn’t missed a beat.

There is nice high end stuff out there but value for money then comes into play, something like a glorious gmmk is very nice but it’s £400+

£4.99 inc shipping.

Yes, point taken. It can be done though. I have a synthesizer that features a wooden pitch-bend and a stone mod-wheel. It's a lovely touch. Literally.
