Warrenty Cover
Discussion
I bought my laptop in 2005, from Comet. With it, I bought their Total Product Cover, which expires in 2010 - for once I did right, I think......
Today, I have managed to drop a pint glass of coke on it, the glass slipped and smashed on the table and it has gone boom. It has gone all over the keyboard and inside it through the 'fan holes' at the back and underneath I'm just pleased that it was running on the battery at the time
The policy certificate states :-
Breakdown - we will pay the cost of repairing, or is a repair is uneconomical, replacing the insured product - even if the breakdown occurs as a result of accidental damage.
What is not covered :-
This policy does not cover breakdown or accidental damage due to
neglet, wilful abuse or misuse.
Of course, they are closed.
Luckily, everything is backed up onto the server
So, what is the betting folks, will they replace it? Or will I have to go through my Home Contents insurance?

Stick to your guns, you paid for the cover and the incident is clearly covered by the Total Product Cover scheme.
Their FAQ imply that you should have this cover, even if you have accidental cover on your home insurance, as claiming on that policy might lead to increased premiums.
However, I did see that they exclude ANY business use of the product, good job you only use it for home use ;-)

I didn't pour it over, I dropped a glass!
How is that neglect?
You willfully bought a glass of coke near to the the laptop. You knew coke and electronics dont mix. How is that neglect?
If you read the manual which came with the laptop I can almost gurantee somwhere it will say something like "keep liquids away from your computer as spills may damge it". You neglected to follow the instructions.

Had the unplanned incident not occurred then the two would never had met.
Following your logic, there is no such thing as accidental damage as you should always take the necessary precaution such that there can be no accident.

Well, Comet won't play ball with me
But more because they didn't collect all the premium payments , than a who is at fault dispute
Evidently they collected 3 of 4 payments, yet the policy says 3 payments, and they don't chase you, just lapse the policy - I wonder how many others have been caught out like that?
Still, it can be claimed on my Home insurance and they have got someone getting in touch with me in the next 2 days. They asked if I thought it could be repaired and I said not a chance - it went bang usually not a good sign that
