There's been plenty of conjecture (pictured) about a 16GB iPhone -- and its mysterious absence from the initial lineup -- ever since the 16GB iPod touch graced us all with its minuscule presence, but things are starting to look up. We just got a pair of tips purporting inside AT&T info that both point to the 16GB iPhone showing up shortly. One person spotted the phone in AT&T Wireless inventory, listed as not in stock, while the other tipster was fairly certain about a release this Tuesday or the next one. Obviously this is all hearsay at the moment, so don't go hawking that 8 gigger just yet, but we'll see if Apple's going to serve us up a Papa Bear-sized portion of gigabytes soon enough.

Update: We just received word from multiple sources that the O2 staff has been notified of the 16GB iPhone launch at 1:30pm UK time. Price: £329. That will likely translate to $599 in the US like the original 8GB iPhone.
Looks interesting to all the iphone fans out there

Sounding more interesting. What about the tariffs, though? All the ones I've seen are an utter rip.

They've just got a lot more competitive.

Handset is still pricey and data is a bit thin but on the whole, they're a lot better than they were.

I see Apples Store is down with the "Back Soon" sign.

I have a feeling that there may be a 32GB iPod Touch too. (Or maybe it's just my imagination but they seem to have let stocks run down of the 16GB as I have been looking at getting one.)

yes

I'd quite like an iPhone, wouldn't even mind paying £260 for it, but the cheapest tariff is £35 a month - I rarely use much over the free minutes on my £20 a month tariff.

From the apple website "Hot News" section....

Apple website said:
Apple Adds New iPhone & iPod touch Models
Customers who’d like to carry more music, photos, and videos with them now have new models of iPhone and iPod touch with double the memory from which to choose. The revolutionary iPhone now comes in a new 16GB model for $499. It joins the 8GB model for $399. And the iPod touch now comes in a new 32GB model for $499. It joins the 16GB and 8GB models for $399 and $299, respectively. [Feb 05, 2008]
Edited to add:- Both new models are listed on the Apple US store, but not on the Apple UK store yet...

a guy sat next to me only got the 16gig touch yesterday. He is sat kicking himself.

Although he did just call the Apple store in Sheffield (MH) and they knew "nothing" about it even the one on the apple site in the US.

But if they release before the 14 day cash back expires then he can swap it and pay the diff.

No news of a 32gb touch yet, just conjecture at this stage. Most people i've spoken to still aren't buying the iPhone because they can just get a touch and a proper phone for less money.

Next Apple will be releasing the Iphone shuffle with no screen and calls random people...

Read my post above, my quote is taken from the 'Hot News' section of the Apple.com website and the 32gb Touch already appears on the apple.com webstore.

Here is the direct link to buy one (if your in the USA)...

IIRC anything bought at an Apple Store can be returned within 28 days.

Any UK prices on these yet? I've been holding off on purchasing one for a while now, so maybe this is the final shove I needed. Having said that, 32g iPod touch or 16gb iPhone? Hmm..
Off to New York soon so could perhaps pick one up there for a few shillings less too.

UK price will probably be £329, for both the iPhone 16gb and the touch 32Gb, ties in with their current pricing of iPhone 8Gb & touch 16Gb at £269. smile
I still don't want one though... wink

P,
Remember though that although the latest firmware has been "Jailbroken" to allow thired party applications it has not yet been "sim unlocked". So a brand new American iphone cannot be used in the UK at this time.
They should crack the sim lock soon, but might be best to wait until they are sure.

had a few days with a touch dual, touchflo isn't at all bad, although some of the gestures in the photo gallery are a little awkward. That aside, its quite a usable bit of kit.
