Hi all,

With the help of Altrezia, I now have my website up and running - see here. www.longleysprivatehire.co.uk

Now, I think Google has trawled it... as if I search for 'Longleys Private Hire' it does come up with the right page now, but how can I get my page further up the listings?

Is it just down to keyword density or is it more complicated than that? I hope it is because my competitors have really crap websites that basically just keep saying cab, taxi, cab, taxi, airport, minicab, taxi blah blah every 3 words...

But even though their sites are pap, they still sit higher than mine. Are they also ranked by popularity? confused

UKBob did tell me lots about this once but I have a brain like a sieve and have forgotten all but the reciprocated links thing banghead

hehe

Cheers for the help in advance BTW biggrin

To upload the tag - you will need to edit your homepage and add the code that Google has sent you.

They then trawl the page looking for that code - basically to confirm that you ARE the editor/owner of the page - it's a validation process basically.

In terms of getting up the rankings - there's a complex Google algorythim - but the bottom line is a network of links to your site from sites which have high google rankings, and a high number of clicks from google to your own site.

There's a hint on the Analytics "console" :

How do I add tracking code to my website?

Copy and paste the code segment into the bottom of your content, immediately before the tag of each page you are planning to track. If you use a common include or template, you can enter it there.
<script type="text/javascript">
var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://ssl." : "http://www.&quotwink;
document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + gaJsHost + "google-analytics.com/ga.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E&quotwink);
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-xxxxxx-x&quotwink;
pageTracker._initData();
pageTracker._trackPageview();
</script> You will need to update the "xxxx-x" in the sample above with your own Google Analytics account number. Note that the following line of code must be placed on the page before any reference to the pageTracker object. var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("xxxx-x&quotwink;

So what constitutes a high google ranking? Is it just the position under specific search terms?

I don't want to end up changing my content too much if I can help it. There's gotta be a more intelligent way to do it smile
