Toshiba are pretty good. Or you could get a Dell Inspiron 1525 and spec it up a wee bit.

Coincidentally, I ordered a base model Dell 1525 on Tuesday, it arrived on Thursday and I've spent a couple of hours setting it up. It seems a perfectly nice piece of kit. And bloody high spec for the price, given all it'll be used for is light internet/word processing/Powerpoint work.
