Sky customer here is it possible to access sky player outside of the uk - asking as off on holiday and got a few sporting events I don't want to miss plus rather than take DVDs can use the film library

Or is it like BBC iplayer where even if you supply them with your tv licence number they will not permit usage when your accessing from outside of the uk

Do you know anyone with access to a VPN. I say this because I used to log in the uni VPN to gain access to the apple student website from home. I'm guessing that this would work from abroad to access iplayer/sky player

You won't be able to watch Skyplayer from abroad but for a fiver you can sign up with these people: https://my-private-network.co.uk/bbc?gclid=CMWQ4cq...
No contract but all payments are via PayPal - just cancel the next payment from PayPal before it's due. I use this service and it works really well with all the online UK channels.

How about using remote desktop to a machine in the UK? I've never tried it with sound but presumably that works.....

I tried that but found in my case that the connections were just too slow.

Could you not use a UK based proxy server?

I tried that and it was flaky at best. Using a paid for VPN server it's rock solid - well worth £5 a month.

had a look at that site looks very good but I'd like to tell then I want only one months subscription but if it worked well then I'd repeat that on every vacation well worth £5.

Do you have sky and have you used the sky player through this site or just the BBC I player?

Hopefully this works as were going for a nice quiet break so will catch the odd evening film after a meal and for me the sports tri nations f1 etc.

I've used it with BBC iPlayer and ITVPlayer, Channel 4 and Five online viewing and they all work perfectly. I haven't got a Sky account, but if you have you just need to link it.
The good thing about the Sky Online service is you can sign up for the service for a month at a time rather than a long contract which is what I plan to do when the Ryder Cup is on.

There's no problem with using My Private Network on an occasional basis - you just have to remember to cancel the PayPal payment before it's due.

You can use Sky Player, BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and Channel 4OD overseas by setting up a UK proxy connection giving you a UK IP address. This simply means the online tv websites allow you unrestricted viewing because you appear as if you are in the UK. The only issue then is you need to be a subscribing customer of Sky to get the TV channels online. If you want to know how to play TV shows like Top Gear whilst driving across Europe or US, then visit http://Watch-TV-Abroad.com. or copy the phrase "Watch-TV-Abroad" in http://youtube.com
