Google maps on CarPlay

Well, it’s a bit basic isn’t it.

It’s missing lots of features from the iPhone app.

I really miss ‘Search along route’ and the fact you have to push the microphone button to activate it being able to hear your voice.

I think it also has an issue with the zoom function.

I’m sure it will get better as it develops.

Roll on Waze. They seem to be taking longer with their Beta so hopefully it will be more fully featured.

The only thing Google Maps has going for it is better POI's. The Apple Maps ones are poor.

I personally also prefer the Google routing algorithm over Apple.

Not sure if it’s just me but if I have a route already active in GM via CarPlay and then ‘End Route’, it seems to freeze and I can’t enter a different destination.

I have to close GM on my phone to reset it all before entering a new destination.

I’ll try it out tomorrow and see how it compares vs GM. Can’t be a worse iteration of Waze vs how poor GM is on CarPlay.

Well Waze on CarPlay is much better than Google Maps on carplay.

They’ve obviously put more into their conversion and it’s quite good.

I’d like to see in future developments

Speed limits and current speed (speed limit is ‘hidden’ behind guidance box
Proper integration with Siri voice
‘Night’ colours like the app
Add stop along route is fine if you input an actual address/actual place but not very good if you ask for a coffee shop along route.

Much better than AM or GM on CarPlay though.

PS - apparently TomTom Go is coming to CarPlay early 2019

For clarity, night colours does work if you select ‘Night’ on your phone. What doesn’t work for me is ‘Auto’. It leaves it in Day colours all the time.

Apple Maps in terms of CarPlay usability and interactivity is light years ahead of this.

Ah, I don’t disagree that AM on CarPlay is MUCH more integrated and better to use. The only issue with it is it’s not very good at routing or knowing exactly where POI’s are.

GM on CarPlay is a joke.

Waze is better better but still far from seem less but in my opinion, the routes and knowing where POi’s are make it better on CP. and it will only get better as it develops.
