Has anyone ever tried to replace a X Box hard drive with a bigger one? I intend to do this and wanted some advice. The physical swapping over is not a problem, its the software on the HDD that needs to be transfered to the new HDD. Would I need to put the drive into a PC, copy to another HDD, then change the one copied from, to the new one, and paste the files back over. OR, can I use a crossover cable and network card to grab the files and swap them.
Also does anyone know if the main board is double sided (I need to solder to it)

It will require a mod chip, or so I have been told, thats why I need to know if the circuit board is double sided or do I need to solder actually on the top layer (VERY little area)

My mate's brothers friend's cousin's son, well ok, my mates brother did this, the mod chip he bought didn't need soldering - it was little clip on wires or something, then he got a 120Gb drive in there

When buying the larger drive make sure it's the 5400rpm disks and otherwise heat build up will be an issue.

Shit, your joking?! The one i got is 7200rpm, cos its faster! Oh well, guess I could put a fan in there?!

Have a look at www.xbox-scene.com as that is the 'bible' for XBox mods & tech news...

Also on that topic, check out www.xbconnect.com - allows you to play SystemLink games (ie. Halo) over the internet with loads of other people - and it's free!!

XBox rocks as well - but be very careful if you have your system mod'd as you'll need to hard disable the mod before running XBox live - otherwise you'll be banned..

I did it yesterday, fitted a switch too so I can turn it off for Xbox live internet thing.
