Electronic note and sketch book - do they exist?

I take a lot of hand written notes with sketches during the day on paper, most of which end up getting lost in the pile of paper on my desk. I'd like something like a e-reader with an A4 screen and the ability to write and draw reasonably naturally on it, then be able to save it direct to a computer later. Not too fussed about hand writing recognition

Some form of line drawing "assist" feature would be great that would straighten up sketched lines.

Some e-readers seems to have note taking feature but they look rubbish.
it would need to be just as responsive as actually writing on a page.

Like writing on paper then scanning it, but in gadget form. Even if its gadgetery for gadgetery sake then I still want one!

I'm thinking something like a kindle or sony e-reader but touchscreen

also not one of those digitiser type pens either, it needs to be a device

ipad is not suitable, touch only?

Uh, ya. Wasn't actually suggesting you went out and bought a computer from 1992.

I know, however I did try to buy a newton from ebay recently, but went way over my bid. just fancied a go.

I feel that the ipad option is missing the point. I had a tablet pc and it was unresponsive and still writing on a lcd screen.

There doesn't seem like there's anything as responsive as writing on actual paper. which would have to be run through a scanner to save it.

It seems like i'm after a device that has an a4 e-ink screen, full pdf viewing facility, responsive touchscreen to enable writing directly to a blank sheet or on top of a pdf document. This would be very handy out on a construction site, no more A0 plans flying off into the distance when a breeze picks up.

such a device (if or when it exists) probably £250. Pen,paper,A3 prints of construction drawings and the office scanner, all effectively free of charge.
