Hi everyone, i have been on here a few weeks now, and thought it may be a good idea to introduce myself on here!!

My name is Ben, and i am a Technician for Mercedes Benz of Eastbourne, and i am offering my services if anyone needs any advice on anything Merc.

Ill keep an eye on here but you can e mail me on bloodyniceben@btinternet.com or start a new post!

I do work silly hours and dont get on here that often, probably twice a week, you would probably be better off sending an e mail.

Cheers

Ben

Nice one Ben its always nice to have some technical support especially for those who prefer to service and sort their own vehicles out. I find it very difficult to get technical help pages for the SLK320 there is a very limited amount of information available.

I searched long and hard for a workshop manual to no avail. If I had one in my occupational role of Technical Author I would make a web page manual.

Hi Ben

Nice of you to offer your assistance. I have a problem with my 2001 SLK230 if you don't mind. It appears that my supercharger is only working intermittantly. Sometimes it works as it should and you can hear the supercharger working. Other times it is noticably slower with no supercharger noise. Is there anything I can check or does it need plugged into the computer?

Thanks.

Gavin

Thats an odd one, sounds like the belt is slipping to me, that would be the most obvious thing to check. I cant remember off hand to wether it has a freewheeling pulley on it or if its a fixed type, i would have to check tomorrow morning as its my day off today.

It's a bloody nice offer of advice, Ben! I've made this topic sticky, and I would suggest you set it up so that you have an RSS feed on your computer, rather than e-mail. Most FAQs are exactly that, so it will be good to let everyone read the advice you're giving. I'm just waiting for the parts to arrive from AMG to repair the supercharger pulley on my SL55 - it's all under warranty, thank goodness!

Incidentally, do you know where I can get some 200-cell cats at a decent price to replace the 400-cell ones that come as standard - I've heard they restrict exhaust flow tremendously?

Also, anyone know where I can get some 19" style IV alloys at a good price?

Hi Ben...biggrin

About to take the plunge and order a new CLS for Mrs WR for September delivery.....(From local Manchester dealer)

Going to be either the 3.5 petrol or 3.0 diesel.....driving

Salesman strongly advises going for latter as performance is "adequate"..wink and obviously fuel consumption is better, plus probably better residuals.....

What do you think??.......scratchchin

The CLS is probably the best looking Merc for many years, and would certainly be on my shopping list if i wasnt a techy!!

My advice would be go for the 320 V6 diesel, a superb engine, and very quick for what it is, add a Brabus chip ( dealer option ) and you will have an economical quick cruiser. Perhaps with an AMG kit and some 19"s smile

At the top of the page, just under the blue thread title bar, it says RSS feed - click it and click the "subscribe now" button. (leave it on "live bookmarks" with the orange icon). You'll then be asked where to put the live bookmark, and it'll go onto your Internet Explorer favourites - put it in your "Links" in IE, or Bookmarks toolbar folder if you use Firefox. Clicking it will take you straight to this thread.

Hi Ben, I've just said yes to a new E class from you lot at Eastbourne today. Hopefully it will work straight out of the box and I won't need any tech help wink.

Hope to pick it up in a couple of weeks when it comes in. I'll say hi if you're around smile.

Hi Ben

Thanks for the really quick reply. I have had a look at the belt and all seems fine. I am not sure I was very clear in my original post of the symptoms. If the supercharger is working ok it is fine for the whole journey but then the next journey it might not work. I assume from your suggestion of the belt slipping, you thought it might work on and off in the same journey.

Thanks again for the advice.

Gavin
