Production delay for new E Class
Discussion
A new production decade starts from 1st April, so I’m wondering whether any cars will be built before that date.
I’ve compared the current brochure to the one from the last decade, and there’s zero difference, which is good, as the last change brought some not insignificant changes to the spec (black ash centre console became standard, no longer needed to pay for higher limiter etc), and also a price increase.

I guess it all depends on what offers the dealership I got my original offer from (Grimsby) are currently doing. They seem to take it in turns to offer that sort of discount.
Anyway. Anyone else had updates today?
Supposedly mine is having the body/panels fitted - next step paint....Anyway. Anyone else had updates today?

Yes - but he cant tell me any more which is a bit frustrating. He is trying his best though it really strikes me that our guys are up against it!
Who would be an MB salesperson?? Honestly, I think the chap I have been dealing with is awesome, but it must be so frustrating to not be given any decent info, and then have to try and keep customers happy and informed without any said decent info. I feel bad that I’m contacting him once a week for an update, as I feel like I’m wasting his time, as I know full well he won’t have been given any more info.As and when my car arrives, I’m going to write a letter to the dealership principal to commend their efforts in the face of trying circumstances, and at the same time write a letter to MB to slate their ignorance and ineptitude.
Yes I feel the same, the service my guy provides is excellent (and has gone above and beyond on several matters already)
As I have said previously, delays are part and parcel of car ordering, it happens and is annoying. But what really pi$$es me off is the lack of info from MB . Just shows they have no idea whats happening!

This is actually the first time I have ever encountered delays with a new car. Sure, I’ve ordered cars and been given long lead times in the past (Jaguar quoted me 24 weeks), but never has one slipped beyond the quoted date. In fact, most have arrived ahead of schedule. A few years ago I ordered a fully loaded Audi, was quoted 16 weeks, and it turned up after 10 weeks.
Mercedes quoted 18 weeks for this, and it’s now going to be at least 31 weeks, assuming the build date doesn’t slip further. The funny thing is, when I ordered it, I asked the dealer if it would be ok to delay collection until 1st March, so I could have it on an 18 plate. With how things are going, should we start considering delaying until the 68 plates are released? (Obviously we won’t, unless we’re still going around in these same circles come August)
MB should learn to under promise, and over deliver. If they told people at outset that we might be waiting 30+ weeks, then our expectations would be managed, and we’d be better positioned to decide whether it is worth waiting so long, or to look at alternatives. Taking sizeable deposits and providing unrealistic lead times is remarkably poor form.
If someone stumbled across this thread, they would probably think we are all whingers with first world problems, but I think our concerns are justified.

Possibly. The largest frustration for me is that I've lost a buyer for my car (in part) due to delays from Mercedes. To be 100% fair, my dealer said that they would loan me a car in the interim (which I would have to swap every couple of weeks to keep mileage down - requiring a 2 hour round trip), but that it would be an A Class or CLA. Neither car suited my needs, so when I saw that somebody had been waiting since January for their car, and my dealer was telling me that my car would be delayed by at least a month, I pulled out of a deal on the sale of my current car.
So I'm now in a position of having a depreciating asset while Mercedes delay and delay, essentially meaning that the financial attractiveness of changing my car is getting less and less every passing week (the cost to change is increasing).
Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to have a good old moan. This thread is like Alcoholics Anonymous, but for people who have had their luxury car delayed

This thread is quite therapeutic. The wife tells me to shut up when she asks me how my day went, and the first thing I do is start moaning about the latest instalment of the Mercedes saga. It's good to find somewhere where people are in the same boat.To be 100% fair, my dealer said that they would loan me a car in the interim (which I would have to swap every couple of weeks to keep mileage down - requiring a 2 hour round trip), but that it would be an A Class or CLA. In other news, I took a call from a chap named Ross from AMG UK customer services earlier this afternoon.
He has spoken to the factory, and based on what they said he's pretty sure that my car will be built on 06/04. The additional QC advisory is still in force, but they are slowly clearing the backlog. Fingers crossed we will all get our cars sooner rather than later. There are no delays due to a shortage of parts anymore. Given how bugger all of these have been built over the last few months, they must have mountains of HUDs and other bits laying around.

Dealer updated me today. Car still showing 26 March production and 10 April UK eta. No current holds on the car. Off to Wembley for the spurs game on 14 April so looks like I’m buzzing across to Cardiff on the Sunday for the drive home (fate duly tempted!)
So sorry to hear about that (having to watch Totterinham Hotspuds).Good news re car though!
No updates from me. Will get the latest on Monday, but not expecting any change to what I was told on Tuesday. A VIN would be nice though.
Worst bit for me is That myself and the family are Man City season ticket holders since moving up North (spurs for life, city by coincidence). The wife is Argentinian and knows some of the WAGS. Still, corporate box and free booze so who cares who wins as long as the bl00dy car is there the next day! 3.5 hour schlep by train as well :-(
