He's talking about the "new shape" which will be the supercharged 5.5 - they have almost 460bhp and the same in torque.

In a straight line you'd need to be redlining something with an Italian animal on the front to get by it!

I heard that in the new shape C-Class they were keeping with the Naturally aspirated 5.5 24v V8, but uprating it to 400+bhp.

Initial rumours were it would get the new 6.3 32v V8 for a "C63 AMG".

I'm now really thinking about replacing the CL for the E55, I love the coupe look on Merc's but if the new shape E55 is as quick as people are saying then it's gotta be given a try

Anyone have some info and things to look out for, mostly spec wise?? Servicing costs??

I have driven both, the C55 was very fast and we proved that it would hit 155 very quickly...I was amazed that it just didnt let up at all...almost a linear acceleration up to 150! The C32 didnt really seem any slower just a bit less "creamy smooth"

Hi Craig, from the performance fig's I have seen, the RS6 is about the same as the C32, C55 etc to 100mph, however the RS6 with its 4WD just goes, whatever the surface, while the Mercs are still checking with there ecu's if they may put some power down hehe

Mark.

Had an RS6Avant for 6 months before I went convertable, very enjoyable.

I don't believe the RS6 is quite as quick in a straight line as the supercharged E55 AMG but there's really not going to be a heartbreaking amount in it! The 4WD of the RS6 is probably a good advantage in many ways although I dare suggest the overall handling/balance and also refinement on the Mercedes is probably a bit better?

The C32 can be remapped. It's a forced induction engine so probably takes to it pretty well. Some go for a new pulley (to make the supercharger spin faster), combined with a remap it apparently takes power to 400bhp.

A smaller pulley and a bit of tweaking of the injector and ignition maps would probably suffice. Supercharging has it's limits though, as it's mechanical forced induction and more wasteful compared to turbocharging. With the latter running off exhaust gases, the sky's the limit until the engine explodes!

A question: why have the latest AMGs dropped supercharging in favour of bigger displacement and revs? I thought Mercedes were all about low down thump.

Just to clarify, when I said "new shape" I meant the W210 replacement, not the brand new shape

I deduced that the original poster's budget was for the '04 type model (cant remember the code).

Are you talking about the C-Class or the E-Class?

You mentioned earlier "it will be a 5.5 supercharged V8" this is already obsolete in the current E-Class. The current shape E-Class is a facelifted version of the current generation E-Class (Model Code W211) and is the successor to the W210.

If you were meaning the C-Class, the current C55 (naturally aspirated 5.5 24v V8) is coded W203. The C55 is the facelift of this generation of C-Class, while the supercharged C32 AMG was the pre-facelift of the W203 range.

The next generation C-Class (don't know the model designation yet, but will possibly be W204????) seems to have had a few rumours circulating, as to what engine will be in the top banana AMG version.
I heard they were putting in the new 6.3 32v V8 to make a "C63 AMG", but have since heard they will just have a more powerful version of the naturally aspirated 5.5 24v V8, to continue the "C55 AMG"
And were you implying earlier, you had heard they will use the supercharged 5.5 24v V8 (currently still used in the SL55 and G55 AMG?

Hopefully this straightens a few bits out!

I run a 01 plate c32 AMG, ie 3.2 litre supercharged version. Whats most impressive about this car is the torque and its instant low down power. A combo of this and an auto box (ie so no fluffed gear changes) means little can beat it off the line. Obviously more powerful stuff will start to take over at higher speeds
