The fuel tank on M5 is much smaller then the Mercs!!!
From the websites, BMW 70 litres, Merc 80 litres.

Not much hapening here at the moment!
Mine only ever used to take £60 to fill, so that makes it about 60L. It is the biggest complaint with the new M5. It's all to do with 50 50 weight distribution.
Just shows, the reserves are always very conservative.

Anything that is worth looking out for on higher mileage models?
any known engine/transmission problems?

I've seen a few at the 30K-34K mark on 03/53/04 plates very tempting!

Been considering one of these myself and was wondering about servicing cost for and A and B service. Would probably be independent specialist as MB are expensive and unhelpful.

Also as mentioned any idea on higher mileages as im looking at 2003 40k is models.

Currently driving a 350Z but fancy something massively fast. Only thing that puts me off is its big and dull looking.

What else you considering Big Fra? Im not limited to saloons or anything also considered Evo IX 360, M3 csl, Monaro Vxr ect

Know a few people who've had these over 100k and no problems.

All I've had was a throttle valve actuator (under warranty) and bottom ball joints (found on service by stealer 2 weeks after MoT. Hmmm)

Incidentally, mine *may* be up for sale in the New Year. 2003 with 34,000 and full MBSH. (And it's de-badged to keep the Saxos off your back) smile

Will advise when I've thought a bit more about it.

Oh dodd001...Big and dull looking?

It's a standard 4 door saloon car, not overly massive. And as for the dull bit, well, you either like 'em or you don't. I'd never call it dull looking though.
Suspension down to the lowest, parked up against a standard E Class it does look rather mean.

I didnt mean its looks crap its just i followed one a few months ago and although I was almost foaming from the mouth my girlfriend said it looks dull. I like them and they are a bit of a 'Q' car. If you decide to sell it nearer the summer I will definately swapping mine next May and maybe even April so do let me know if it comes up for sale.

Dont know how much I'll have to spend till next year as price of my car is falling i dont thing i'll be able to get much more than 17K next year which is criminal but thats the way things are. I'd like an SL55 but budget doesnt allow although from what ive read the E-class is lighter and almost 2 seconds quicker 0-150!!!

Cheers

No. They are both approx 24sec's to 150mph.

I don't think Mercedes meant for their E-classes to appear in The Fast And The Furious 4: Chav's Revenge, tbh...

Quoted from Evo Magazine " A couple of months ago we attached our own VBOX timing gear to an SL55: 0-60 in 4.6sec and 0-150 in 24.0. Quick, huh? Yeah, but the more sober-looking E55 gets to 150mph in just 22.8sec... [insert your own expletive here]."

Ok its 1.2 seconds but still its statistically faster which is what i was saying not that 1.2 seconds makes any difference.

Not in a rush, after a Quatroporte or a W12 Phaeton at the moment, but love the MB.

Sorry Rich, may want a wee bit more to fund my next toy (50 bloody odd years old and still want toys?)

I know it's quicker than an SL (and also a similar engined CL) but it does it more subtlety wink

17k is what I'll get for my car not what I'll be spending mate. I've got a few years of car obsession ahead of me then if your still buying AMG's ect at 50. Only 21 here smile

To be fair she has a point.

E55, S6s and M5s for that matter look little different to a Munich Taxi.
To some that's the appeal, but she has a point.

For what it's worth I tend to agree with her, sorry.
