In other news, I started replacing the injectors on my 162k mile 560 with the parts below. No real reason too, i just recalled changing injectors on my old 190e 2.6 and it having a nice improvement in throttle response and pickup.
Injectors: A0000785823 / Bosch 0437502054
O rings: A0099971048
Injector holders: A1170700455
injector seal : A1160700077
injector bracket: A1160700740
I say 'started' as i had real struggle removing the injector hold down clamp bolts on both sides. Managed to do one side (just about got away with one of them), but rounded out one of the 5mm allen hex bolts on the NS bank. Spec is 10nM for these bolts, i must have been applying 5 times than when it rounded out. Lots of Rost Off in use before hand too.
Have also tried hammering home a torx bit, but that just ended up slipping too, so will need to get it drilled out and maybe re-tapped. Can't tell if they've been removed before - the injectors i did remove on the OS bank all had 'Made in Germany' on them (should be West Germany?), made me think they've been changed before.
Also, the Injector holders did not budge on mine, so have left the originals in place. I'd heard they can be pulled out with the injectors, mine seemed quite happy where they were, so both they and the o-rings were not used.
This is a job I want to do on mine to hopefully smooth out the rough running. Whats the damage per injector? Around 35 quid each? Injectors: A0000785823 / Bosch 0437502054

Yes, I like the way it says "completely original" with those indicators and steering wheel. Might be ok underneath the cosmetics though. As always a view from r129sl would be welcome, it's amazing what he can glean from a photo of a 126 coupe

I often think "is is just me" when I look at a car like that and see it as completely ruined by mere indicators and a steering wheel! I just can't stand them.
Of course its just you, but then again 90% + of the rest of us can't much stand them either, when they get into the hands of younger owners, automotive molesters all sorts can happen, but easily sorted!P

No. I too agree.
Bruno Sacco did not design this car for some pleb to 'modernise' it. If you want to personalise your car stick a dateless plate on it, but don't - for the love of God - bastardise a timeless design.
A bit harsh?

Yup about that - i used cars245.co.uk but they only sent me 7 and thought they had sent 8 based on weight. Got it sent separately by them as a 'goodwill gesture' I watched the Wheeler Dealers SEC video last night (an oddly formatted version was available on youtube). Whilst an AMG homage is worthwhile and interesting to see, it's not my bag, I'd personally want a close to original spec and normal wheels example. I can't fault them for wanting to do something to add value though and the result was desirable.
Really enjoying this thread CdG! I think you've chosen very well there. The SEC is one of those designs which seems just so right to me and I'd love to own one some day, like the S124 it seems to me to tickle the eyes with all the right proportions.

I also consider the steering wheel far too large, particularly on the early cars, but I detest the after market woodrims that cost a fortune and look as if they came cheap from Halfords!
A simple swap with a smaller wheel from say a W124 does the trick and makes the car feel so much more positive in the steering.

I'm not into mods of any sort really, although there are always discerning exceptions. I really hate those after-market wooden steering wheels but, now jith comes to mention it, the standard SEC steering wheel is properly massive so I can see that there might be temptation to change.

There is quite a good post about this job on the Merc Club forum. If you're a member, this is a link to it: https://forum.mercedes-benz-club.co.uk/t/replacing...
If you can't access that thread, in which i added a link to the very useful 500eboard and a selection of c126 how-to guides including injector changes, link provided below:http://www.500eboard.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f...

Funny as Mercedes pre pimp quite a few models these days, that almost utilitarian take on luxury that they used to be the masters of, and is so compelling seems rare these days.
The large steering wheel. There are reasons. Of course there are. These cars are the epitome of rationality.
First, if your power steering fails, a large wheel gives a fighting chance of still being able to steer the car. Especially round town.
Second, a large steering wheel lends directional stability at very high speeds, even quite a large movement of the wrist turning the wheel but a few degrees.
Third, a large wheel makes for smoother handling, the turn of the wheel being easier to measure and regulate.
Fourth, it feels great.
