You really like the hydraulics- what are they like to drive with them? Ride quality, handling etc?
Horrible! Ruins a car completely. Actually not completely true, I got quite good at it in the end using spheres similar to Citroen, but it was never as good as the car started out...

I remember the 123 coupe and the SECs, you were a nutter back then.
Sure I banged my head against the b pillar whilst you "demonstrated" the power of the hydraulics.
The head trauma would explain a lot...
Do you still make the polished up engine block tables in your spare time?
Ha! Yeah, sorry about that... Tables, no, not made one for 10 year or more - everyone is at it these days though, just look on ebay! I've still got a couple of polished Merc m120 v12 blocks in my front room though Sure I banged my head against the b pillar whilst you "demonstrated" the power of the hydraulics.

Well, this was the original, which seems have now been copied hundreds of times!
I don't have a decent picture of the v12 coffee table at the moment, and I'm working away in Germany this week, but here is the wine rack
Sorry OP, back on topic now...
As well as the coffee table (superb), cracking wireless in the background too I assume?I don't have a decent picture of the v12 coffee table at the moment, and I'm working away in Germany this week, but here is the wine rack

I am sad enough that I really enjoyed watching this Old Top Gear review of the Mercedes 190 from 1983 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlzcnWISHMo

Yup, valves kept the room warm, it was permanently tuned into Radio 4 longwave. Marvellous bmthnick1981 said:
Great posts Piffle, I remember your multi coloured W210 E55 estate and current e63.
What made you decide to go for a 6.2 N/A e63 over an e55k out of interest?
Because 6.2... I'm not sure really, I'd just read so much about the m156 engine that I wanted to experience it. I bought the car before driving it. Also, for some reason, I didn't think the e55 was a big step up, as it was essentially the same engine as my old w210, albeit with an extra 110hp. Man logic in there somewhere, but somehow, the e63 just feels more grown up. It really is a brilliant everyday all-rounder. I should also have it running on LPG by the end of next week (assuming the weather is good enough to get outside), it will then be a 500+bhp daily that costs the same to run as a diesel Passat. Now saving for the Quaife diff (£850) and the tune/speed limiter delete (€1000) which gives +40hp and 190ish mph vmax. Justified because it is obviously essential when you spend your working life in Germany What made you decide to go for a 6.2 N/A e63 over an e55k out of interest?

Utterpiffle, did that w123 lowrider coupe ever live in Cheltenham (near the swimming pool, by the pitch and put in Pitville opposite Prince of Wales stadium)?
I think it looks really cool, but I am sure I have seen it before (years ago).
It's possible. It had several owners after me. I know at one point it had t25 rear arches grafted to it, and a really elaborate paint job on the roof. I guy called Coop from Essex (I think) did all that work. Not really to my taste, but I appreciate the work that went into it.I think it looks really cool, but I am sure I have seen it before (years ago).
(These pics are from before it was completely put back together)
I say all this, but I just looked on DVLA, and it apparently hasn't been taxed since '09 - which is odd, as the photos above are from 2011. Private plate on it now? Either that, or maybe I was given wrong info...
Update to keep the 80/90s Merc chat going...
Had the local Merc specialist come to jump start it and take it away for service and full inspection as am doing a road trip to Spa.
Given I bought it last year with just a test drive and no real inspection I was prepared for the worst.
They found absolutely no rust! All bushing and pipe work were good - has obviously been well cared for.
Just need to replace a leaking power steering pump, front discs and bonnet soundproofing.
Next year (all going well with finances) I will have the interior deep leaned, full leather refurb, a blow over to sort out minor paint imperfections, all new rubber seals (doors, windows and parade deck) and a full service of the roof mechanism and new top.
I love this car and will never sell if I don't have to!
It's an R107 300sl, 1989 in navy blue with cream leather. I actually prefer it to my old F355 spider!

I drove lots of people about at work today in my 190 2.6 (I get business miles on the insurance) and it was very much appreciated. I am really enjoying the back to basics feel, combined with the 6 cylinder engine. Not something that you get nowadays.
190s are great. My local Merc specialist is amused when I ask for their 190 as a courtesy car instead of something modern.Gassing Station | Mercedes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
