Lowering an R129 SL500

Hi All,
I've recently purchased myself a rather stunning SL500 which is in truly wonderful condition.
It is sitting on 18" AMG alloys and I can't help but think it is riding too high as standard. Does anyone have any experience of lowering an SL. The ride isn't an issue (it's fairly stiff as it is) but it just doesn't look right.
I'm also looking to release some more noise from the engine but 000's on a full system is slightly over the top. Not a big issue but if anyone knows of a way to let the V8 really sing then please speak up.
