Well I've put down a deposit and a letter of intent. Fingers crossed I'll get a car!

Anyone else put down a deposit yet?

And can a mod edit the title to add the big C?

All sounds jolly encouraging - a possible RWD 166 replacement as well. Could make a good pre-depreciated family barge!

I would be interested in finding out the anticipated price for the 8C...

Back in 2003 there were some dealers taking £1000 deposits based on a £65,000 expected price and a 2005 delivery date.

If you're able to say, mr_tony, who is your deposit with and what sort of price / timescale are they talking about?

To be honest I don't know yet - I'm putting down a niminal 1000 quid and a letter of intent at my dealer (not naming at this stage). I'm the second deposit they have taken. There is no price or date at this stage as far as I know, but the 65k is probably a reasonable ballpark guess based on what has been rumoured so far online...

My Alfa dealer said they are sitting on £42k's worth of deposits... Won't say who they are at this stage

Ooooooooooo - missed this post!

Nice one Mr Tony. If you want help speccing colour, may I suggest black with a tan interior?

Are these going to be all LHD or am I mistaken? If that is the case then surely a chat & deposit with our continental cousins might prove a cheaper option? Can anyone clarify what the warranty situation would be with bringing one into the UK yourself?

as far as I'm aware nobody has said LHD only to me at this point.
Lots of confusion around, as the pics I've got are only of the spyder, the coupe wasn't shown to the guys from delaerships, though the 'word on the street' is that 500 coupes would be built too if you believe autocar et al...

we shall have to wait and see I think. I don't really want a spyder though, I want a coupe!

Seem to remember the LHD only from when it was first announced, though a RHD version would be preferable! Still, seeing as I would be prepared to order and fetch it back myself, you would think it would be cheaper to get one abroad, especially if they are all LHD? What associated warranty problems could I encounter? Has anyone ever done this?

Given that it'll only ever be a very limited production run, you'd have warranty worries wherever you got it from as I'd imagine there'd be very little specific expert knowledge outside of Italy.

Mr Tony - the Spider is absolutely gorgeous! Beats the utterly fantastic coupé into a distant 2nd place in the looks dept. I'd have one in a heartbeat, even though coupés are more my thing.

Never fear, I think its far more likely that they'll build the coupé if anything. Other than your post above, I've not heard a sniff of a production Spider at all...

The spider is gorgeous but the coupe looks better, to my eyes.

At a guess, could there be some dealers authorised to work on them and some not, like the GTA centre thing there is at the moment?

Fingers crossed for you here, mr tony (you lucky ****! )

I have to counter the black colour suggestion though - Alfas, like Ferraris, can only be red :P

Good luck!

Ciao

UPDATE:

My contact at Alfa is now admitting that there is no confirmed timescale to build the 8c, no concrete plan regarding whether the spyder or coupe is prefered as the car to build if they did build something, and indeed no certainty that either 8C will ever be built at all. So much so that they're no longer taking deposits...

Hope this changes and it's just a rumour on the grapevine, but I do think that maybe the 8c is just too good to be true after all
