I hear that one of the best Alfa dealers anywhere is Fish Brothers in Swindon.

They have a good reputation.

without going over the old ground ( brakes ) again ..
I've done 6,000 in 3 months in my 147GTA now, and I love it.
Quick ( set the speed alarm to 130 and see how regularly you can getit to go off )
Comfy ( Gateshead to Bhm in one stretch )
Thirsty ( 4,000 mile avge of 24.5mpg, best of 15.4mpg for a 48mile route )
Fun ( great for BM/merc baiting, yet to be beaten by an Impreza, yes I know there are quicker ones )
Sure it has 'quirks', but they're endearing, and it's ITALIAN, so what do you expect ?

Pwig ... I'd appreciate your honest opinion on where to get her serviced .... either let me know through here, or email through my profile, please ?

thanks for your comments tim. sounds like you really like the car, im really tempted, they look great inside and out and sound fantastic! as i understand build quality is pretty good too now. my major concern is residual (oh and a good dealer for servicing!). if you pay £20k for one in 2 years 24000 miles will it be worth £10k or something? im looking for a fun car and TT/330Ci/S2000/boxster are considered but something about the GTA....

I Bought my Bella back in April, Dealer i use is in Dudley, they have very good tech skills, (they are also Evo Dealers) and they do a lot of modification work. This link is my actual car, www.centralalfaromeo.co.uk/EvoluzioneModelDetails.asp?iwdatabankdetails=2

i havent had all the mods apart from the suspension upgrade, need to save for that. A beautiful car to own and drive(previous was a Audi TT 225), she hasnt given me any grief, sounds the dogs, a real head turner.

I would recomend this dealer (follow the link to my car) Salesman i felt screwed me over on the deal, but hey i pushed him all the way.

Service Dept know me very well! as it took them 3 months to get me the right CD for the GPS!
I gave them hell about the infamous brake judder problem, but they did the works, and i now have a big fat set of brakes on the front (and no spare wheel) anymore, but miles better that the original set.

Davey, if residuals are your main concern, one of the germans would be a far better bet. My coupe 20V turbo went from £25,500 list to £12,000 in 11 months and 20,000 miles.
But if you want something that stirs the soul, the germans will fall far short of the way the GTA makes you feel

cheers tim. dont get me wrong ive been stung before, even on a german, bought E36 m3 for 25k and sold it 2 years later for £11 and 24000 miles. i know GTAs are rare (not seen one on road yet) so hopeful depreciation wouldnt be toooooo severe. Incidentally i got an online quote for a brand new uk spec car delivered to a uk dealer for £20k inc leather (about £3500k under list). do you think thats a good deal or better to wait for a used one?

Davey, that price doesn't sound too bad, but keep shopping, and then wave it in front of a dealer, it's amazing what people will do for a sale.
In 6 months I've only seen 1 other 147GTA, in black, and I HOPE it was still being run in, or the guy deserves to have it taken off him.
residuals example, 147GTA with leather and other extras, list about £24k5, at 11 months and 9,500 miles, we were offered £17,000 in p/x for a more expensive car, and thats WITH the big brake upgrade.
ps - if you're buying from a dealer, make it a condition of the sale that you get the brake upgrade included f.o.c. as soon as they can get it, or give you a full refund. It'll save you thousands in parts or a trip back every 1500 miles for news disks and pads ... thats what we did, and it worked a treat ... big disks and loads of stopping power, but without the judder every 1000 miles
pps - I think I saw one for sale at an attractive price at a (usually reliable) dealer, can I say where on here ?

cheers for the advice and info! defo if i get a new one i will haggle for brake upgrade (is it fronts to 330mm discs or do they upgrade rears too?). id appreciate knowing a good dealer and interested what deal they had!
PS do you run it on optimax or 'better' petrol?

it's fronts only, new discs calipers and pads
the upgrade fits inside the 5-hole wheels, but not the 17-inch multi-spokes ( notice how they're not on alfaromeo.co.uk any more? )
mine gets optimax or SuL exclusively, because the company pays, but when it was my wife's car it got sainsburys cheapest, it doesn't seem to have suffered, but I think it's cleared out a bit now, having ingested getting on for a tonne and a quarter of better fuel in 3 months !
if you can't get the upgrade, I made suggestions for a fix based on experience of my coupe in another thread( same brakes, give or take ), email me through here and I'll tell you all about it and suggest dealers to visit/avoid.

oh - anyone maxed their 147GTA out yet?

No tim, being as decisive as ever! if you think about it less than 20 grand for a car that will keep up with pretty much anything on the road, is cool and rare and has that engine is a good deal. i mean compare it to TT/330ci/early boxster and its no competition....have i convinced myself to take the plunge yet?

G'Day Davie!
Mate I would advise you not to buy and Alfa unless it is still under warranty. I would not buy any other car other that the 147 GTA or 156 GTA. One other car that impressed me was the 156 JTD 16v. It has decent power and also smooth to drive. Allot less than a 156GTA! It really depends what market your in.
Alfa's need special attention. Any old bum can drive a BMW or Merc(No offence intended). But on the other hand there after sale service is allot more advanced than Alfa.
Good luck in your decision.
