8C ompetizione

That's disappointing. Is it too cynical to think they were stirring up interest in sporty Alfa coupes in the weeks leading up to the Brera launch?
You mentioned you'd put down a deposit - do you just get that straight back, or are you invited to transfer it to the rumoured Brera GTA as it's a V8 Alfa coupe you're after...

Information coming back from Alfa the other week was '8C is go', now it's '8C probably not go probably'. Didn't get the info from the dealer I've got my 'deposit' with though.
Between you and I i haven't handed any money over yet anyway, dealer reserved my place in the queue and said I could give them the cash shortly as they were expecting an announcement regarding whether the coupe / spyder was to be built. Looks like I am sadly saved the dilemma....

Think that is too cynical - given the financial situation of Fiat / Alfa etc, I doubt they'd ahve spent 1000$s of dollars flying out hundreds of Alfa people to Italy to show them the spyder if they weren't really serious about it...
Is indeed a shame though as it is one fantastic looking motor. Still not to be too down, it isn't certainly cancelled - it's just that there is no firm timeline, which usually means it's a project that will just fizzle out - you never know though!
Mr Tony......might be worth a trip to the Paris motorshow in September, as this is where the production version is reported to be appearing. From what I've read in the motoring press/internet, orders will be taken at the show.
With possibly only 500 to be made, I'd be banging down the door on preview day!!

What is it about this car (and the next generation Maserati Spyder/Coupe)? I've never known such on/off/on/off/on/off/on/off/on problems with any other cars in recent times.
I wonder if they're just getting cold feet regarding dealers taking deposits. Without wishing to upset anyone that works for an Alfa dealer (PWIG!!), with only 500 worldwide (if that is the case), I reckon they may be sold through Ferrari/Maserati dealers instead.
Of course, I could be well off course with that one
Either way, Alfa will be raving mad if they don't put the 8c into production.

Just spotted yesterdays write up on the 8c on Italiaspeed.com. The bit that scares me is this quote ...
" Reservations that the 8C Competizione will cannibalize Maserati’s own range have been taken care of, since the Alfa Romeo will pack more punch and will be offered at higher price tag between 130-150,000 euros. The cost of this Alfa Romeo exotic will therefore be equal, or slightly higher, to that of the Ferrari F430 Coupé, with 500 units scheduled for initial delivery. "
Given the F430 is such a higher rated car, you are really going to need to love Alfa's to be in for this kind of price... Or is the car so special that it just does not matter.
Thoughts?
Cheers, Red

Hmm. Thats not good news.
The drive unit scheduled for the 8C will be the 'old generation' ferrari drivetrain from what we've been told.
If they're selling the 8C with the 'old' internals, and it's not limited edition (i.e. statement said 500 for initial delivery - so if it's popular it'll make more....) then I can't see it holding it's own against the 430 financially, or from an engineering perspective
Still it's one hell of a lot prettier though!

So has anyone here actually put a deposit down and actually intends to put up the kind of money being talked about. Don't get me wrong... full credit to you if you do. I had thought the price may be around 70K at which I would have liked one and would be very tempted, but 130-150K euros (>90K pounds) is too rich for me. Anyway, for that kind of money there is much to choose from. While I'm not a Porker fan, the new GT3RS seems more sensible. However, my guess is that a 500 unit run is likely to be fully subscribed and Alfa know that. Trouble is of course, when they realise what a good thing a golden goose is and do a 2000 unit run to follow it.
