Alfa 156 sportwagon

Alright Doug.
Yes, go to www.auctionview.co.uk, although you have to pay about a tenner for a months access. The catalogues are only published a few days days before the auction, so the Derby sale on 29th will not be up yet.

Take a look at this, it says it better than I can, also have a look at the users reviews.

Thanks for that, some of the user reviews look pretty scary. I guess I need to start looking for a 2002 2.4 veloce. If any of you have one to sell
D.
I can't repeat this enough: Get yourself down to a Fiat Special Sale auction and save £1,000s. At the one I was at, a 2001 156 2.4 JTD with 8,040 miles went for £8,600. Don't forget, these cars still have the balance of the manufacturer's warranty and are sold with "No Major Mechanical Faults". It's where your dealer get their stock from...
I've just been into the local alfa dealer (priory Cambridge) who say they are getting a Y reg 01 plate 2.4 veloce in on friday. full leather and climate 36k miles. They want £10995 for it. I mentioned I was really looking for a 02 model car as that is when the spec change, the saleswoman told me that the only change was to the console and it happened in 01. I thought there were a lot more changes than that, to traction control damping etc, etc...
Anyone care to comment?

From various places.
"It will take a sharp pair of eyes to spot the clear-lensed headlamps and revised grille"
"Electronic stability control, Brake Assist, six airbags and dual-zone climate control are standard. The revised cabin uses the same higher-grade plastics as the smaller 147."
"the five cylinder 2.4-litre JTD is also worth considering, with power up 10 bhp to 150 bhp"
"Alfa has bolstered the 156's active and passive safety levels. All models now get a non-switchable electronic stability governor dubbed Vehicle Dynamic Control that quells over- and understeer, while the antilock brakes now get Brake Assist, which provides maximum braking performance during emergency braking manoeuvres. Curtain airbags join the front and side airbags, bringing the total to six."
The traction control is switchable.
"Stereo/Sat Nav
Much improved over the previous generation. Drivers that opt for the Connect system will have the sat nav, telephone and audio controls in a single integrated system that soon becomes intuitive and user-friendly to use. Alfa has also responded to the criticism levelled at its rather impotent sound systems and there's now the option of an ear-bleeding Bose audio set-up that has been tailored to fit the 156's cabin environment. Callas never sounded so good."
Not shure I am as enthusiastic about he above as they are, it's OK though and better than the old one.
"The rear bench seat also comes with ISOFIX child seat mounting points. "
Can't think of any other differences.
Ya pays ya money ya takes ya choice.

Great engine, probably the least oil burnering sounding TD I have ever driven.
It is great. Like the b*stard child of a V8 and an Audi Quattro.

However they are not interested in doing a deal so I will be looking elsewhere..
Problem is they are so hard to get hold of, so they don't need to do deals. A friend of mine's Dad has been looking high and low for one. Bought one in London. He lives in Scotland.....
I doubt you would get an 02 revised model from a dealer for 11k, 13-15k yes, depending on the spec. You are finding the same problem I found, they are all red, we wanted a silver one, only cos I'm too lazy to wash it every week.
I reckon do what Alex suggested if you aren't bothered about dealer pampering and can wait for the right car to appear.
The only reason I said about the roof bars is that it makes it more attractive when you sell it on, it is a sort of estate after all. Use mine all the time for ladders etc.

I've been after a 2.4 JTD Sportwagon and have just spent a couple of weeks searching high and low for the right car. My ideal was an 02 after the revised interior came out but with a budget of 12-13k it was difficult to find anything (a search on autotrader shows how in demand they are).
In the end, I found an 02 plate 2.4 JTD in silver with red leather interior, 26k miles for £11995 which included balance of man. warranty (to June 04) and 2 years bundled on top of that after some negotiation :-). Brilliant drive and spotless car. Even came with a nice DAB tuner as well.
I found out that a couple of companies (Angel Tuning & Monza Sport) do an ECU remap that puts the output up to around 195bhp and 290lb/ft torque. Tempting....
At the end of the day, the newer interior would have been nice but the car is stunning and I reckon I've saved a couple of grand by opting for the slightly older one. Gives me some spare cash for that remap (would be interested if anyone had tried it BTW).
If you're still looking, www.mkg3000.co.uk in Twickenham is where I got mine. They tend to specialise in Alfas and were great. Also worth looking at is www.veloces.co.uk who have some revised models for a bit more money.
