4C - Where are we with prices right now?

Lovely 17 plate car appeared on Auto Trader today. Great spec and low miles. My first choice of colours as well (red/black) What a kicker when it’s registered after 1/4/17 so it attracts the ludicrous envy tax.
If they knocked £1,500 off that's near 5yrs of the premium VED and then £140pa thereafter.priley said:
I'd never even heard of that change! So it's based on the original selling price, making the current price irrelevant. Still, £450 tax for the next five years. Ouch!
Based on Manufacturers list price, anything over £40,000, An extra £310 a year for years 2-6 on top of the actual road fund tax Edited by Stuart J on Thursday 11th October 13:02

Hope this is ok- If anyone is looking for some genuine Alfa Romeo Carbon wing mirror caps, I have a pair at a substantially cheaper price than Alfa Romeo charge. I also have some genuine Alfa Romeo Italian flag badges which fit on the lower rear flanks of the 4c. Pm me if you'd like more details.
Hi,Do you still have the carbon wing mirror caps? Website won't let me pm you for 24 hours!

I’ visited HWM on Saturday with a view to trying to buy that car. You thwarted me
Sorry Highway. I'd been to look at it the week previously and placed a deposit on Saturday morning. Collect on Wednesday. I'd have loved to have found a car with the carbon roll hoop cover but I'm too impatient! That is interesting, as I popped in to a specialist to look at something for my wife in my mine and got a very interesting offer from someone there at the same time. I think people are waking up to these.
As we all know though, it is all about when you actually want to sell. I know Joe on here had his 2016 sold subject to finance at strong money the other day.
I get the private purchase though, if nothing else you avoid the Alfa "service"

Veloces have had 3 cars for sale over a month now. As we approach end of the year with Brexit looming I wonder how many dealers who actually own cars will want to keep them into 2019. There is a small market for these cars with many potential buyers looking at the Alpine or a variant of late used Porsche.
I’m keen to buy the right car, need to find it.

I'd second this. I've had a couple of strong trade bids on mine. I'm in no rush to sell though. As we all know though, it is all about when you actually want to sell. I know Joe on here had his 2016 sold subject to finance at strong money the other day.

I’m curious as to what a ‘strong’ trade bid is. Most spiders are between £40-£44k. I’d imagine trade bids are at best mid £30’s. WBAC are close to £30/31 on a 17 plate car. Not that I’m suggesting that’s the value but I can’t see a dealer buying in at £38/39 then looking to retail at £42-44.
Mine is a 2017 anniversary with 3,000 miles, and perfect. I could have walked away with a 42k bid. If I went sor probably a bit more.
I like the car, and so happy for it to sit there while my leg recovers.
I know when I was trying to find one, colour and spec are key, the carbon bits and leather dashboard seem to be key.
There was definitely some bargains to be had earlier in the year when I first started looking. However speaking to some dealers, it seems at mid 40's they are very popular.
After all outside of a Cayman, or Lotus, what would you get? I looked at Alpine, i wanted open air motoring.
My personal view is that they didn't sell at 70k and I get that, but a Dallara carbon chassis and a pretty fun car for for mid 40's seems value.

Without being unkind, from the tone of your posts it's almost like your "willing" the market down..I looked for some time too for a private car as like you I saw no real added value to buying a lightly used car from a main dealer that essentially was new with lots of remaining warranty. However, owners seem to hang on to spiders and I realized that unless I was prepared to compromise I'd probably wait quite some time for my "ideal car" to come along and also given the sudden flurry of activity possibly end up paying more for it.
I don't personally think paying circa £44k is OTT for a decent spec spider, in my case it bought a high spec car with 20 months remaining warranty, 600 miles on the clock and two services in the book.
Most cars loose money but like many I stumped up the cash with a pretty firm conviction that over the next ten years that I plan to own it it will very likely appreciate in value, it will also probably prove to be pretty robust and come with bargain basement running costs.
Good luck with your search.
I don’t mind conceding that it would suit me for the market to dip! I am looking to buy after all! Personally I’d feel more confident paying more were Brexit not on the horizon . I don’t see dealers adding value, for the reasons you’ve drawn out yet I’m likely going to be forced that route as there are no Spiders (red/black leather seats and dash, sub 5k miles) available.
