Punto GT wheels picked up in the Rover the other day....

....5.5x14 instead of the Seicento 5.5x13s that are on the car now. The same width so hopefully I won't have to do much arch work and 14 so I can fit bigger (better?) brakes.

Had a few issues with the Rover yesterday so I needed a pannel press from Kev' (van of death) while I was there I bought a Longlife Stainless Steel box for £5! Someone said you'd never get that on the Fiat so I set myself an hour to do it.

Not bad for a fiver eh?

The old box didn't look that ropey....

...until you got close.

Cut brackets off both boxes and welded a Fiat one to the floor and Longlife one to the tailpipe.

Tack welded the Fiat pipe to the Longlife box, took it off and narrowed the entry with a grinder, hammer and M.I.G'd it together for a classic centre(ish) exit peashooter look. wink

Trial fitted the new wheels....

..looking a bit agricultural so my man from Lotus (a.k.a dad) will take his magic grinder to it when he's fit enough. In the mean time MS Paint will have to do. wink

Twenty quid for a pair of Punto GT real calipers because they were listed as "Fait" instead of Fiat. wink

Had my charity donation renewed today and noticed their website has an orange background.

http://www.arthritisresearchuk.org/arthritis_infor...

So to give them a bit more coverage. PPC is a national magazine and forums I have edited the final design for the "Guff" paint job thus.....

It's a completely donation funded charity and well worth £10 a month (they get the Tax back on that as well so it's more like £12.50). Sorry if this is spam-ish but my Mum has Arthritis and want to do something to help myself.

Started to strip parts off the car today for the orangification process to start.

Made a couple of discoveries as well.

The car has been a victim of "Invisible car syndrome" in the past and bodged. frown

The Brembo calipers need a 20mm bracket to fit the hubs....

....and fit under the wheels.....

...but would need at least 30mm spacers to clear the inside edge. frown

I also noticed that the Seicento spacers were on the front instead of the rear hubs.

For the unititiated the Fiat Seicento was based on the Cinquecento modular platform and to go with the curvier body Fiat commissioned a new set of wheels to replace the old Uno Turbo based four spokes. The new wheels are 1.5mm narrower in the centre a fact Fiat didn't discover until they had ordered 200,000 sets. When fitted to the rear hub the end of the bolts would hit a spring inside the drum making the car click down the road. Shortening the bolts meant the car would fail the "euro-blah-blah-blah-we're Belgian and have nothing better to do than poke our noses in everyone elses business" tests, so a pair of spacers were made for the rear hubs.

Don't know why they were on the front today though. scratchchin

hehe

You should be on the PPC forum. I'm RelentlessRob on there (my old Icehockey nickname).

The guys who did the Jaffa Cake graphics have offered to do the charity banner for free provided I have a similar sized one plugging their website. Two issues with this. It's a Ciquecento well known for the amount of advertising space and second I have to add everything to the budget if I enter the Fiat into the PPC £999 Challenge.

Advertising a charity is all well and good but advertising the advert cutters is a bit "sell out" really isn't it?

It was very nice of them to offer to do this and I highly reccomend them for the standard of work they've produced for me so far. wink

So this week I have been mostly working. So whilst at work my fingers have been working on the car (in a good way). I though £20 for a pair or rear Punto GT caliers was a bargain; well I've just won the front pair of calipers to match....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

...for 99p

Punto Gt calipers and discs are a straight swap for the Cinquecento but require the 14 Inch wheels. So the Brembos go back in the shed for now and the standard front calipers will find a new home as well. I'm picking the rear calipers up Tuesday as thanks to my sister using my card to register my nephews PS3 my Paypal didn't work. Only a 260 mile round trip eh? wink

My 99p calipers arrived today. smile

Nearly new pads but could do with a tidy up and some paint. wink

Bluification phase one complete-ish.

It was so hot today thay the paint was drying between the gun and the pannel so instead of the high gloss finish the paint has a kind of matt powder coat look to it. Still as a base coat I can't complain.
