Rach123,
I've been driving an import for four and a half years (albeit the 3.0 GTV)and haven't had any serious issues. With regards to warranty, after your remaining warranty is up there are the after-market warranty people and they were happy to give me a policy.
As pdV6 said, they all come from abroad originally so there's no problem with parts.
If you get any spider-specific issues you may want to visit www.sportsalfa.com
The 2.0 may not be the quickest in a straight line but the handling is quite sweet! Not sure how much the lack of roof compromises the spider but the GTV drifts nicely for a FWD car and you can just play with it on the throttle...don't try that for a while though -ok?

Seriously though, i'll only use it for getting to work etc, i'll be lucky if it gets out of 3rd gear commuting in London.
