I was supposed to be buying another Panda but sadly that didn't happen. With a £250 sized hole in my back pocket I bid on this cheeky chap...







Should be a lot quicker than my Fiorino van. wink

Picked the old girl up today and apart from the classic Punto clunk from the rear suspension or exhaust, a long brake pedal and grinding pads where she's been stood the car's a real rip snorter. wink



Sun set behind me driving my mates MkII Sporting towards a rainbow my mate driving the MkI (as he has a trade policy) into the distance because the car is so much quicker than the MkII 16V even with more gears to play with up to the speed limit we were left behind constantly.

I'm looking forward to a more detailed inspection in the morning. smile

So I'll with the bad.

Broken fog light...



...the classic Punto "clunk"...





...is the drivers side front subframe bush as predicted.

The paint on the roof...





...and bonnet...



...look like photo's from the early Apollo missions.

No need to CSI the interior (for a very welcome change)...









...but the lever to lift the drivers seat...



...suggests a previous owner hardly ever wore his/her seatbelt and the car's been hammered a bit.

CSI the exterior though...













...things I noticed whilst cleaning...



...door ding (well the car is old enough to vote)...



...and someone stuck fablon to the door pillars; badly. wink

Now the good.

N/A Delta Hf engine!!!! woohoo



Last time I had one of these engines it had 300bhp and was sat in the back of my X-1/9 rally car. wink



A history that not only confirms the 58,000 miles is genuine but is so extensive that Peter Jackson and Martin Scorsese are fighting over the movie rights.





Most important the car's bloody gorgeous. biggrin

I had one of these in the same (best) colour, great fun.
Gearing was a bit short as far I can remember. Felt really quick at legal speeds.
Always wanted a GT, also had a black T plate 1.2 16v sporting - loved that engine!
Looking forward to more pics.

I'm planning to fit my GT brakes tomorrow so I can use the standard Punto brakes on my Fiorino van. wink

I've used the Cinquecento conversion disc for two reasons. Primarily they are the ones I had in my shed but importantly I don't have to fit the 10mm wider Punto GT wheel bearings (10mm wider to accommodate the ABS trigger wheel) and the wheels sit at the standard track width so unless you look closely you can't tell the brakes are vented discs with a bigger pad surface. wink

I need to put a name to it. Not quite Imola blue. I'll carefully sand the peeled lacquer off and try to restore the original paint before applying a new top coat.

you going to fit the modification cups over those rear subframe bushes or do a full on drop the frame jobby and renew all 4?

the cups do stop the knocking but i still think if the main bushes have gone it lets the already poor handling down even more so i plan to change all of mine in the summer.......

for £250 you cant whack it smile

did it have tax and test too?

M.O.T 'til June. No Tax but that's nothing the Payday Fairies can't handle.

My Classic insurance company won't cover the car as a classic so she's a whole £104 more than my Panda to cover for the rest of the year. wink

I'll drop the subframe, clean, paint and fit new bushes. While I'm at it I can fit the Punto GT rear discs as well. wink

My Strada 105 wheels will have a new home...





...my 10mm spacer theory is correct and I think they'll look pretty nice.

I've been thinking (I know) my Uno rally car had a 1.4 10.5cr block from a Tipo ie, Uno turbo head, twin webers and a Van Aaken 280/260 cam'. Piper do a 280/258 but the rally car was terrible on the road.

Piper also do a "fast road" 270/250 and an "ultimate road" 276/250 cam'.

I'm not sure what would be best for the 90 1.6 but with a little head work, injectors, exhaust and induction 120bhp should be achievable without upsetting the neighbors (I miss my rally car).

The Alfa 147 I bought has just about broken even now so the coil packs and mirrors have paid for a new fog light and front splitter for my Punto. smile

Time for a bit of a catch up. I've had a busy few days. Oil and filter change so I could drive darn sarf to Larndun. Enfield via Hornchurch so it was mostly A406 and motorways. I have made a few eBay purchases. As I'm getting fed up of the worlds worst car thief making a mess of my door lock. I have bought a set of lockless doors. I could have done it myself but for the £40 for the doors and £30 for the tailgate a little prep' and paint is a lot less of a faff.



I stripped the gash window tint off and...



...replaced the cut loom with a bit of string so I can wire the screen heaters back when I fit it.

I had the car up on ramps today as the exhaust is getting annoyingly blowy. I knew it was the flexipipe from the sound but...



...hoped it wasn't the flexi' part. This bit is impossible to weld and exhaust putty or bandage (even if I had any) would be a waste of time. Universal flexipipe is available (if it wasn't a bank holiday) but by the time I've taken the pipe off, cleaned it up, welded a new section in place and retrofitted it the bill would be a fraction less than a replacement part. That's now ordered and the pipe only has to last a couple of days (I guess).

While I was under there I noticed...



...the sump is about to start leaking and...



...the lower clutch trim is missing. censored



Whilst eBay shopping I bought a nice used strut brace. I don't want new bits as I prefer the modifications to look period.

After the exhaust, sump and clutch cover discoveries I needed cheering up so I've test fitted the diffuser.



The Alfa 147 undertray is much closer fit than I expected and...



...I have plenty of drop room. wink



Not bad eh? biggrin
