So I've swapped from my Winter diet, Jack Daniels and Dr Pepper to my Summer diet of Grouse and Ginger Beer. I had an excess of Jack Daniels to muddle through and did.
A week later I get a text from eBay.
"Congratulations you have won item number...."

Tidy eh?
So new shell bearings, new engine or break for spares?

Great buy, that's outrageous. A few parts flogged alone would get you your money back.A week later I get a text from eBay.

Personally I'd be pulling the bottom end apart to have a look. It could be that there's been very temporary oil starvation, blocked filter or something, and the shells might not be damaged at all. It could even be that the knocking is not engine related (although the seller seems switched-on).
It's too good to break, re-engine it if the lump is toast.
Which V6? I'm sure it's been done but it'll be a right PITA as the 147 has CANBUS and a lot more complexity than most V6 Alfas. I think you'd need a GTA ECU and if you've got a crashed GTA then why wouldn't you sort that instead. It'd also require uprating a bunch of stuff to cope with the weight up front, so while it sounds nice, may not pan out too well.
She sounds rough but not bottom end rough. It's too high pitched. There's aluminum in the oil and hardly enough so I topped the car up four liters and went for a run up the road and back. No difference in noise except when the car was not loaded.
Water pump?
I'll whip the covers off to find out.

I was quite optimistic as I recognised the noise the engine made when I got it home and put a battery on it.
The timing belt adjust had slipped off and was rattling. Pain in the cheeks to get to and one reassembled I starter the car up and she purred like a kitten...
...for about ten seconds...
...and it slipped off again.
Hmmmmm....
Took it apart and reassembled it again only this time when the car started I watched to see what happened.
The inlet cam' pulley was wobbling a fair bit and the tensioner was moving so much to compensate it worked loose again.
So what bent the cam'?
The temperature gauge was at 90'C but the radiator pipes were cold. Water pump failure?
I took the pump off and it came off in half a dozen pieces.
So the engine needs a new head, water pump, belts; sod it engine. The problem now is whilst I was crawling about I notice the rear subframe was swizz cheese, the floor near the front subframe mounts was dented, stripped of any paint and rusty (jacking or off road action?); also where the car has been stood the brake will need overhauling, the clutch has about 5,000 miles left and to get the car back on the road or track will cost more than I can afford.
So....

With over 200 Alfa 147's listed as "Breaking for Parts" I've weighed the car in. £70
I do appear to have the only set of three door leather seats and have had a few questions regarding delivery costs and dimensions so here's hoping I can sell those and break even. If not I'm still tempted to fit them to my Punto.
The wheels are ending in a few hours and I've been offered £50 scrap so if they don't sell they'll be off to be recycled as well.

The Alfa did better on the weighbridge than expected. £99.98
Nothing sold on eBay though. Just as well it's free listing this weekend or free re-listing.
If anyone here would like the bum holders for their Fiat I'll take £100 from a forum member. If not I'll bung them back on eBay with a £150 start.

LK do you have the driver's side electric window console? Can you take a piccie if so? Mine's a bit fubared and it would be good to replace, but it needs to be like-for-like.
Cheers.
Sorry I didn't take much off the car. Tail light clusters, seats, wheels and stuff...Cheers.

...lack of time, space and motivation resulted in the weighbridge beckoning.
There are over 200 being broken for spares on eBay so chances are the part you need is closer than I'd be anyway.
