Hi Chaps,
I'm invading from the Porsche camp, have had a 996TT for a year & a half now & am getting itchy feet. Love the Turbo, finding it very hard to find something to replace it with. Toying with a 51(ish)reg 360 manual tin top ! Few questions.
1/The Official dealer prices look very inflated & smack of big depreciation come re-sale, is this the case ?
2/ How do they work as an every day car putting 7k per year on the car.
3/ Any known issues & problems
4/ What is the must have spec.
Thanks for your help, probably end up staying with the Porker, but thought I would ask.

You will take a hit since they're still depreciating and there is a facelift due out in the next 12 months. Main dealer markup is 10K or thereabouts. Oh yes it is.

Absolute piece of piss. It's more down to security when you park the thing. Resale is mileage sensitive, but getting less so it seems.

Can't remember anything major offhand. I've heard rumours about problems with the oil galleries on early (pre-2000) cars ??? Annoying things like backup circuit for immobilser and oil temp sensor.

Ferrari aren't big on toys, not like Porsche at any road. Main choice if you're going for a coupe is F1 versus manual gearbox. This comes down to a personal preference.

Other choices are Daytona seats, normal versus sports seats, piping on leather versus stitching ie. small stuff.

There will be more, but this is straight off the top.

Grant,

Being a 360 owner for over two months now, I can honestly say that this is most certainly an everyday car if you wish to use it like that...I try and drive mine as much as I can and already done approx 4,000 KM in it so far (will slow it down in the colder months though) and it has been faultless. Just check your fluid levels often. I agree with Kevin about security though and do worry where I park it sometimes, but tend to not let it bother me that much. 7K a year should be nothing in one of these. I know of some 360's having problems and they had very low mileage cars which were hardly used at all..not sure if the two are linked but I would have thought so.

Not many known issues I know of but if you get the F1 version then I've heard the clutch can wear quite quickly but they are not too expensive to replace. The only niggles I have with my car is with the F1 box and sometimes find it doesn't go into reverse from neutral and you have to put it into 1st before you select R...This is something that's easily fixed though and getting it done. Other niggle I've had is with the electrics, one day the interior light didn't work, checked everything, fuses, bulb etc...nothing...the next day it worked fine and ever since!!! Very minor things to not worry about.

Regarding options/toys...don't think there was much apart from what Kev has said....F1 box, sunroof (as anyone seen one on a 360??), sports seats, electric seats, luggage to fit behind seats (I wouldn't mind this option)....not sure about any handling packs/brakes etc...

Good luck.

T.

Hey guys,
thanks for taking the time & trouble to give me some inside info, much appreciated. The 10k dealer margin sounds a bit "heavy" I thought Porsches 5-6k was bad enough !! The trouble is you loose that margin the second you drive out of the showroom.

Grant,

The 360 is brilliant as an everyday car. I've no doubts whatsoever, that you will not find it tiring in anyway. The only thing is, that you may well find it dilutes the sense of ocassion just a little bit...

You will be hurt resale time, and as Kev says probably more now than usual as its just coming up to model replacement time, although no one has given definite dates for release. I think thats probably the time this model will be stung properly. There will always be a 15% or so (usually close to £10K on this kind of car) loss when you come to sell. I've put on about 6k miles, and its not a year yet, and I've barely used it compared to usual! I did 3K miles in the first month. That's probably the only concern. Servicing is every 12K miles (except first 6k) and around £1.4K a go

Personally I think its better as a second car, although as I said it can be used as a daily driver.

With regards to problems, I havent had any. Even the roof has been mechanically perfect. Touch wood! It seems to cope with everything I throw at it very well (I dont treat it like a baby either!). In terms of reliability I'm very impressed with the car. Also, the initial steering feel is superb! Love the way it turns so instantly.

Spec wise,

I'd go for a tubi,

Colours: Apparently yellow is the worst for resale, red is red(lol). The silvers are good, although Argento there is quite a selection so bargain hard, dealer claims they tend to try to knock these down lots when buying because there are lots on dealer forecourts.

scuderia shields (IMO) a must on any of the following colours: Red, Black, Titanium. Blue TDF

Seats: Daytona's are nice, beware of sports seats, they come in sizes (s,m,l). Make sure they fit you, but a secondary concern is they can be more difficult for resale (apparently).

The sound upgrade pack is very welcome, standard is SHIT!(mines standard btw)

Calipers: I think red calipers are a must on black and red cars. Looks great on others too!.

I think the silver (all shades) and yellow cars look better with rear challenge grill, it accentuates the prancing horse more. Front grill adds a little touch, but not really essential probably won't even notice it.

Modular wheels are a pain. They cannot be refurbed in the normal way if they are dinked! Although they look nice, the standard ones are too far off anyway.

Stitching on the dash can work real nice (i.e. silver cars with black interior and silver stitching).

Crema interior IMO clashes a little with the aluminium bits. I initially wanted crema on mine, but with hindsight just didnt look 100%. Not enough to put me off it though! Black with Crema works better than red with crema on the 360 IMO.

Cant think of anything else

Thanks Ninja for taking the time & trouble to give me some inside information on the 360, much appreciated.
As I mentioned B4 I know 996 Porkers inside out, but only know the general stuff about 360's, so your tips are great. You have a cab. by the sounds of it, what is the roof insulation & body flex like compared to the tin top.
Cheers

Some of the good independents like Forza288, Verdi and Talacrest seem to have 360's at slightly more sensible money than official dealers.

Forza288 have a yellow F1 with only 8000 miles which they probably do a deal on:www.forza288.com/used-ferrari-detail.lasso?c=c00193.

Looks way cheaper than a franchised dealer - maybe £5k less.

Agree that supply seems high, so plenty of room to haggle and so reduce the pain of depreciation later.

Sorry Grant, haven't checked back for a while so missed your last question on this thread ooops.

With regards to the top, it has been completely faultless. It is a much better roof than the 355, you only need to press the button and it deals with everything. It actually looks bloody cool too

It has never leaked, or even got close Very well insulated and the inner side is well made, hiding all the metal parts etc (not so with the 355). You can sometimes just forget you are in a cab, honestly.

In short, its so good as a convertible, it makes you wonder why anyone would want a tintop (baiting Modena owners here... lol)

One thing that is a bastard is cleaning the thing. You've got to clean the car, then, put the roof down and "carefully" clean the area which is hidden by the roof when its up.

Body flex really is minimal, but I suspect in all honesty you cannot really eliminate it compared to a true tin top. They have done a mighty fine job though. Try them both and see what you think. There's not that much in it, but I personally dont think its AS rigid as a standard modena.

Hope this helps.
