Has news of this series filtered over to pistonheads yet? I'm one of the drivers in it, and we're starting to spread the word around a bit more to attract new drivers, particularly for next year. Up until now the series (details at www.selocmotorsport.com) has grown only by word of mouth from the original enthusiastic core of members of SELOC.

The idea of the series is to be relatively cheap, yet competitve, racing where chequebook size should make little difference to performance. The cars chosen are the 1980's BMW E30, in 318 and 320 guise - simple, rear-wheel drive cars, with a ready supply of cars and parts. Very few modifications are allowed, to keep costs down and performance similar.

This year we're based at Lydden (more info at www.semsec.org.uk) with a couple of rounds at Brands (this Sunday, with Formula Woman!) and at Croix to add a little variety.

For more info, check out the website, or mail bmw@seloc.org.

Hope I'm not breaking any gassing station rules by posting this!

I wish you plenty of luck, but isnt there already an established bmw series?

How does this differ from the kumho BMW championship.

with most of uk motorsport struggling for grid sizes is the best approach adding another similar series ?

Cheers

We're working with the Kumho guys on this, and are a guest class with them this year - been out at their rounds at Silverstone and Croix so far. Our cars are lower spec and cheaper to run than the current Kumho classes, so this series is complementary to it rather than competing with it...

Ah that makes much more sense. run with them till you get big enough for you own grid and help their grids whilst your at it..

We got a few favourable comments in the write-up of Brands in the Formula Women thread - and we're out again on Sunday afternoon at Lydden. Please come along!

Also, a few of our cars will be at the SELOC charity day at Bruntingthorpe on Saturday, doing passenger laps: "Brunty Or Bust" - www.bruntyorbust.org/
