Picked it up yesterday, looking forward to the weekend!!

I was looking for the thread 'got me 3200' started by bad loser but couldn't find it. My last post there had me deciding to buy a black 3200, the reason why that never happened is a long and painful story which I was going to post but realised i couldn't really do that without spouting some bile and frankly couldn't be bothered, besides if it hadn't happened I wouldn't now be the proud owner of a gorgeous 4200.

In the end i got a far better deal and to my mind a better car......downside's those 4200 back lights, no
suede rooflining,been told that
a sports exhaust would invalidate the warranty, eats
clutches every 12K or so...... but I still think even though I have spent
more than I wanted, I have got a better car and a year down the line I
will have lost less than I would
have on the 3200, this being a reasonably priced 4200 rather than a over priced 3200.

Congrats - That's 2 of us in a week (got my 4200CC last week)

Who told you they eat clutches that quickly!(bit worrying)

I was told that used normaly they are good for at least 40K miles.

The 4200 is a much better car than the 3200 it's built better, has a better more reliable engine(which is much cheaper to service) and the interior is seriously improved with the "Information centre" however the lights are ... er ..a bit ordinary

Congrats to you too!(what colour?)
Clutch info came from service guy at maranello who said typical life is 12-14K longest he has seen it last is 18K! I tell you what I hope your right and he's wrong 40K sounds much better.According to him they can plug in a laptop and tell you how far the clutch is deteriorated 50%,75% etc. takes about half an hour, my cars a 02 as well so whilst under warranty will have to pay the dealer prices but after that the independents price's for clutch replacement are less eye watering.

Was I glad you posted the info about the CD changer, my car came without, whch doesn't make much sense, how could anyone have a single slot CD player for sat nav and audio? The wifes alfa 147 has a very similair system and the option of connect sat nav comes with a 12 CD changer. Please can you pass on the details of the fitter's that you are using I definately need that work done, you mentioned the work won't affect the warranty?

Looked at your previous mail regarding sat nav disk, my car seems to have come without, the dealer has promised to get hold of one for me but im not holding out much hope, will try the one out of the alfa, I imagine a replacement from maserati won't be cheap.
If the Alfa disk works, is it possible to just burn a copy?

Finally we are not the only ones just stepping into a 4200. www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=114480&f=5&h=0

Brgds

P.S. Could you mail the details RE: CD changer..many thanks.

Singh,

Brilliant news.

BTW if you click on your name, you'll see the other threads that you've been on, including the one you mention.

Is your car turning heads?

The Car audio place is Thames Car Radio, they are less than 1/2 a mile from Marenellos in Egham!
www.tcr-online.co.uk/ - They've fitted several 4200s before aparentley - should be doing mine Thursday!

My 4200 is Titanium (grigo Nuvolari I think it's called) with Bordeaux interior (deep red)

I must say that I really like the Cambio 'box - I never bother with Auto mode as I don't find flipping the odd paddle much of a problem.

My feeling is that if you do a lot of Town driving that 12-14K per clutch could be right - as i'd say that getting off the line is a pretty heavy strain on the unit, however if you do the majority of your miles in moving traffic then I see no reason why there should be a major problem and clutches will last much longer. However if you always do first gear "launch control" starts then you are well and truly going to shag it!

It seems to be fact the early F1 boxes in Ferrari 355's were known to do the clutches very quickly, but I don't think the same is true of the 360's and the 4200 has an improved version of that box

Having said all that I expect mine will now expire next Tuesday!!!

A new Sat/Nav disk is £110 direct from Navtrak - it is however a strange thing to go missing (unlike my equally expensive "owners handbook" which has obviously been retained as a Souvineer!)

Finaly where abouts are you in the UK as you seem to be travelling the same roads as I?

Paul,

The car does indeed turn heads, which as mentioned previously I wasn't really excpecting. Some I suppose out of sheer curiosity, some because, like us they love cars and a maserati is still a rare sight and others because it simply has a lot of road presence.
How are you getting on with yours? It was a very good looking car, those back lights!!

Exint2,

Thanks for the CD changer info,I booked the car in for a service and a few warranty issues at maranello on the 16th, spoke with TCR and they said they would liase with maranello and do the changer at the same time, which is cool since maranello are picking up and delivering the car, saving me a journey to Egham (not that's anything wrong with Egham)Warranty issues are nothing major, really just the A/C which isn't great. I know the A/C in the 3200 is very good, so I assume it just needs a re-gas, how's yours?

Must agree with you on the cambio-box after this weekend I love it and the car, the fact that it need's practice to perfect makes it all the more rewarding and now I am constantly looking for excuses to drive it.

I agree with you on the curious nature of the navtrak disk disappearance, my sceptical side is wondering whether it's absence was intentional to a mask a problem with the info centre unit, the unit on the wife's alfa was swapped under warranty last year after developing a software fault so I am assuming if there does turn out to be a problem maserati would do the same.

If your using the A406 the Q must be are you east or west? Im in chigwell (please no Essex innuendo, Im a northerner)

Overall this car is fantastic and I would heartily recommend it to anyone, all I need now is long journey!
(back up north and back)

P.S. Do you have any intentions in the direction of a sports exhaust?

I booked mine into TCR yesterday (being done end of this week) and he mentioned you'd called already! (didn't get a discount though)

My A/C needed re-gassing when I got it which has now been done and it is absolutely fine - The engineer told me that Masser / Ferrari systems don't get as cold as some others due to the factory settings?!?

It certainly does the job - however I do set it at 18C rather than the 20 I used to in my Audi..

Given that the car is back at Marenellos in a few days I'd ask them to take the Sat Nav disk out of one of thier many 2nd hand Massers and give it to you - they'll have plenty of time to order a new one for the donor car.

Sports exhaust - Not sure due to warranty issues but I certainly wouldn't object to a louder engine note as I have found myself driving with the windows down just to hear the engine...
