I have been very actively on the hunt for a 355 Spider or GTS in LHD, and now ready to buy. Looking for 1997 or younger, in Red. Have seen alot of cars and looking for a tidy one with proper service history (why is it that people do not service these cars properly?). Am very interested to hear from anyone who is/ thinking of selling.

Many thanks in advance.

Depends on what you mean by "properly"?

If you mean getting alll stamps done at a main dealer, once warranties are out, and owners realise how much fat dealers put on their bills (largely - there's an exception or two), they end up going to use independents. Just look for recognised names on the stamps and if in doubt, ask on here.

If you mean not following the exact schedules, you usually find things have been done earlier than anticipated and/or they'll have one thing done at one time and "top it up" later. Don't forget that these donn't need servicing *that* regularly.

If you find one that's been badly neglected, walk away.

PS Occasionally you may get cars that have been laid up for a while and therefore not serviced during that period. Make sure the services were done once the car was being used again and that it has some more miles on it since.

And always get a check done by an independent party.

Thanks Murph. Yes I agree with you. I actually prefer stamps from specialists (KHPC, QV, Verdi, etc) rather than main dealers as IMHO they are genuinly interested in the cars and take better care of them. When I say serviced properly, I mean there have been a no of cars that I have seen that have not been serviced for say 3 years and one '98 car I looked at that had only had one service in its life!

A 355 may look shiny on the outside, but its the guts of it that I am most interested in. I also have to think of resale in the future, when I come to sell, a car with poor service history will be difficult to sell on again.
