Hi,

I have a 2006 Peugeot 206 1.4

What Im describing is a Intermittent fault that happens at random times whether the engine is hot or cold.

I know there could be several causes that cause this problem but what are the most popular causes for this?

thanks,

depends on the engine, if it is a tu engine it works off the flywheel and is on the right of the block (from the front)

what are the other causes apart from the sensors mentioned?

How do i know that it isnt a battery or alternator problem?

Immobiliser fault. Pickup ring on ign. switch or chip in the key.

How long is a piece of string?

Off the top? Crank, cam, immob, throttle position, maf, temp. Only the first three are likely culprits though.

This.

If it starts fine and then suddenly shuts off I would look at the immobiiliser.

Ok I'm trying to rule out the immobiliser by asking this:

If its really a immobiliser problem then the prob will happen everytime instead of intermittent right?

Not if it was some kind of connection fault.

Remove the chip from your key and leave it in the house then start the car. Is that exactly the same fault?

Do you mean the connection with the chip in the key?

update:

my key is a central locking key.

i opened up the key and found a green circuit board with a circle battery connected to it.

Pull that out and went back to the car and it started. Is the chip on the board or somewhere in the plastic casing?

It will brobably just be in the plastic casing. It will be small!

Google image search it to see what it looks like.

Do you have a spare key and does the same fault occur?
When it fails try turning the key over.

Update:

Regarding the problem I notice a slight humming sound for a couple of secs that i forgot to mention earlier on. This happens straight away after the engine cuts off.

I did diagnostics on it and theres no trouble codes.

To stop this problem from happening I have to manually put my foot on the gas pedal to bring the rpm over 1000 or hold key in the igniting position for a few secs to stop the engine from cutting off.

From this update can we rule out the other possible causes mentioned and pinpoint the likely cause?

Fuel pumps generally make a humming sound

If it was a bad fuel pump the car will be slow sluggish or engine stalls while driving so I rule out bad fuel pump.

Regarding the humming sound i mentioned it sounded like a audible warning that i cank make out where its coming from?
