Grand Prix Cooper

John Cooper launched a special edition cooper in 1994 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the mini and also the 35th anniversary of his F1 team winning the F1 world championship .

It was a very up market car with all leather and 86 bhp through a 1300 with Weber alpha injection system.

There were only 35 made and you rarely see them ( all in BRG )

anyone got one ???

you may be right , but according to the sales literature I have here there were only 35 made .

one was featured in the mini mags with a zeemax kit a few years ago

Agree with the daftness of bodykitting an ultra-rare car like these, but I have to say some of the Zeemax stuff is rather nice...

A friend of mine had one but it was written off a few years ago.

I was also at a show last week and a girl there had one.

I know of a mint cooper sport 500 in mackemland absolutely standard with the jack knight 5 speed 'box and the 90hp conversion...:drool:

prefer the smaller wheels on the Grand Prix .

Never been a big fan of 13" wheels although they do look nice .

Weren't they Almond Green? Anyway, Ian's (aka miniholic)dad has got one (or at least used to have one). It was in the book 'All about Mini' by Ian Kuah I believe.

Still got it Chris but it's not a Grand Prix, it's a Cooper 35 S, Cooper Garages did 5 and ours is one of them.

There were 35 grand Prix's built, quite a special car, there are a few that you see at the shows, they were all British racing green, apart from car 35 which was tahiti blue.

It was launched at the IMM in 94, but it was overshadowed a bit by the emergence of a certain pickup with a KAD engine.

I thought it may have been the wrong one immediately after I posted but couldn't be ar5ed to go back and edit it...

The Tahiti one was owned by a family that had quite a few Minis, they had them featured in one of the mags a few years ago, think they were from the south west. Their son had a Hot Rod replica, and the Dad had one of the first Zeemax kitted cars.

I've got the original brochure for the Grand Prix at home somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it out.

Their surname was Zaringer or something like that - I remember her son did a replica of the Mini Hot Rod.
Rog, I've got an article on the navy one in one of the mini mags - IIRC it's the same one with Zeemax kit. To be honest from what I remember it not badly done - didn't look like half a ton of tupperware had landed on it, but seemed to have been done quite sympathetically.

I saw the Pam Zahringer ( something like that ) car at mini40 in 1999 and it was very well done .


I just fancy one of the BRG Grand Prixs as standard .



But RSPs ain't bad either
