'04 A-Class fluid on clutch pedal.

Got in the car this morning to find that my clutch pedal was very greasy. Was in a major rush so I drove on but it drove fine and there were no clutch issues or warning lights.

The fluid was dark/black and didn't smell.

When I arrived late to my destination I had a look under the dash and couldn't find where the potential leak came from, I'm hoping I stepped in something but I doubt it...

Any ideas?
