A friend has a woody traveller which is currently a restored, painted shell and a box of bits.

I'm going to try and put it together over the next few months, but am unsure as to the best way to fit the wood.

It's a slightly daunting task as I had nothing to do with the dismantling or restoration of the car, and I know the wood is in good condition but off a different vehicle.

I belive it was offered up to the car during the restoration, but it's not been on since it was painted.

Any tips on refitting the wood?

Thanks in advance

Neil, I think Chris Spennewyn is an expert with this, he has a '65 Woody Traveller just about to be restored.
Why not give him a call for advice.

My father has just finished restoring a Tartan red Woody Traveller, complete with many original bits.

From what I can remember:

I think the wood on the side has to be fitted as 1 piece, sorted of slotted together then screwed on.

Use brass/stainless steel screws on it

There were issues with the rear bumpers fouling the wood.

I'll ask him tonight and post later.

Neil,

You should have said last night, I've got some no more nails in the garage you could have had.

Cooperman - we're taking the sportpack down to Chris S on Saturday so I'll pick his brains while I'm there

Thanks wildfire, any info would be appreciated.

It's ok thanks Ian, you keep the no-nails for when fit your new subframe. Sheared the rest of the bolts off yet?

No, not sheared any more, but there are still some left that you haven't rounded off

Have a safe journey down. I may see you at Chris's place or, alternatively, you could call round to my place if you have time. It's a bit of a shambles as we're getting ready to move house, but the Enduro car is nearly finished. The Cooper 'S' is not there as Rougeleo is looking after it for me until I'm installed at the new place.

Hi Peter

Sorry we missed you Saturday. Came down a bit earlier then went onto the Gallaria at Hatfield.

Turns out Chris is a fan of VW Golfs as well. He helped me out with a couple of small problems on mine, and found me a rustfree tailgate for £25

Catch up with you soon

I didn't get around to Chris' place on Sat as I was up to mt a**e with working on the Enduro Mini.
It's almost ready to fire up now, just got to fit the new Aldon custom Igniter dizzy, time it in and, hopefully, off we go.
Then it's to Chris's for a final bit of bodywork after which i'll do the rear camber and track settings and the front tracking prior to MoT.
I'm looking forward to driving it, but it's going to seem slow after my red car as it will be about 30 bhp less with higher gearing. Still, we must respect the regulations - standard engine & gearbox.
Hoped you liked the Galleria. they built if after knocking down one of my favourite pubs - The Stone House - which i used to go to at lunchtimes (and lots of other times) when I was an apprentice at de Havilland aircraft in Hatfield.
All the best,

Peter
