Hi there i've just joined the forum...... been lurking round for ages and never joinedlaugh

I'm hoping that some of you guys who work around body repairs could offer some help if you have the time, i've been quoted £500 for a repair to my C5 thanks to some moron running in to it in a car park and driving off whilst we were shopping, I parked right out of the way of any other cars with about 25 spaces around me and someone manages to crash into it yikes. I think it seems quite steep to be honest I will add a picture with the damaged area. If anyone knows a body shop that comes recommended in the Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster area that would be appreciated.

what do you guys reckon is it expensive or about the going rate?

Much appreciated
Mark

Hi Rob thanks for your reply mansfield is not a problem for me I go that way to work most days, what would you be looking at doing spraying the one panel or blending through the wing and back door? and how long would you need the car for.
cheers

Mark

Hi Russell, Im really not up on the prices of body work normally when a car of mine has been damaged its a major repair and gone through the insurance, so I never get to see the estimate. what Im after is a decent repair blended through to look as flawless as possible the car is going to be sold next year but I also don't want someone inheriting my problems. I had a repair done years ago by a company called uk assistance carried out the repair it was the worst job ever, I could have done better with a tin of hammerite and a lolly pop stick laugh so many paint runs and bad paint and rust after 3 months.

So I have a keen eye and know what im looking for, but I just really would not know what the prices are for something like this, if there is someone that owns a company on here that can repair it please step forward, im just after a no hastle repair.

Thanks for your input Russell, I should have joined this forum years ago.

If the blend was needed I would do that as it makes my life easier.

We could probably turn that around in the day as long as we got the car early enough.

Same day turn around very impressive, most garages are so disorganised they have them for a week.

Very similar with myself we do full repaints and turn them around in 2 weeks (to show standard)

As you said Rich it's about being organised, at the end of the day you aren't getting paid for it if its sat in the corner!

Hi Mark,
I based my comment on my experience in an insurance approved bodyshop, where we are constrained to use certain materials and parts suppliers and required to repair to certain standards. Due to this, it's usually in the region of £300 just to prep and paint a panel- and obviously you can add on the panel beating work, strip/refit and any door trims etc to that.
Bodyshops which are geared towards walk-ins and private work can work cheaper and can produce just as good a result- so basically while I think £500 is quite normal, I'm sure you can get a quality job done for less at the right place.

2 options but neither are that close to you. Metcalf autos in Sherburn. Richard is a great painter. Or Imperial Motor Works in Dewsbury - Dave Cooper is a great guy.

From a cost point of view I'd say no more than a couple of hundred quid. Anybody saying otherwise just doesn't want the job.

To me that looks like it needs a dent wizard type chap, or a body shop to do a slightly less sophisticated dent repair, fill and paint.

It's a door of paint basically (at worst), and should be no more than £300 and that's harrogate prices.

Can't quite tell the vehicle, looks Jag XF, but you could even try a scrap yard for a new door...

Not really a very common car so I'd imagine it would be difficult to get hold of a spare door in the correct colour. Depending on the depth of the dents and if the metal has creased you might get away with dentless repair, usually around about £200-300 because it'll be quite a job with the top ding. Otherwise it's a doorcard off, door gubbins + window out and fanny around with a hammer followed by filler and paint job. Still probably the same amount of labour but more around £350-450ish.

Hi guys thank you all for your replys, the second dent down from the top has a crease in the centre of it and between the centre of the 4 damaged spots there is a thin line there that has creased also, so paintless dent removal is out of the question.

Upon closer inspection the door has 6 dents and a long crease, took it to a guy today just down the road £350.00 blended through 3 panels wing and rear door, and can do it next monday he wants the car for between 3-4 days.

we have a run around for the wife so thats not a problem, its a crying shame I could not find a door at a breakers yard, I looked at motor hog online they have got an 08 C5 in stock front end damage shows it with the doors perfect on the same side same colour...... says doors sold on the parts list im gutted lol. the paint code might have been slightly out anyway mines on an 09 plate if there anything like ford with the paint codes they had 3 shades for my last car rolleyes

Cheers again, just hope the repair is good now....fingers crossed.

How few!!eek
Usually a LOT more than that. Some of the common Ford colours - silvers & blacks - I have formulae for at least 20 shades. Makes life interesting to say the leastsmile

Always makes me laugh when people ask about a panel repair that requires a respray and replies come back saying 'It'll be cheaper to nip down the scrappy and pick up another door/bonnet/wing in the same colour' when the chances are it ain't really going to be the same colour.
