Runs when spraying 2k
Discussion
Hi Guys
Some of you will recall that I recently had terrible orange peel issues when spraying 2k solid white.
Well I sanded back and pretty much started again.
I heated the garage and the paint this time and with the weather being better it all helped.
I will update the orange peel thread with pictures when I have wet sanded and polished.
Ok, this time I have quite a few runs.
My plan is to put all the panels back on the car in a few days and then sand the runs out. I will then use 1200 grit on the rest of the panel in question before painting over the run area and trying to blend into the surrounding area.
Is this the way to do it?
I am not too concerned about overspray as everything will be colour sanded and machine polished when all the runs and peel have been removed.
Cheers

if its a solid colour, you should be able to carefully block out the runs first then 1200, 1500, 2000 grit the car before polishing... as your not using an oven make sure you allow plenty of time for the paint to dry in the run as well.
Thanks mateTo be honest, some of the runs are bad and occurred in the first of the 3 coats.
This is why I think I will have to block the run out completely and paint that area again and surrounding panel.
I just hope it all blends together well.
Cheers
did you wet on wet the coats, or wait to fully dry and key between coats?
if you wet on wet then Id say you may be fine blocking them out.... Id block them out first and see how they look before doing the rest of the panel.
Im not an expert, but I have 2 packed my bucks many times and had both orange peel and runs due to variations in the temperature and ability lol I also air dry (and use a devilbliss gun) and then do my best to correct the inevitable flaws once its dry.

You want a 'run razor'.
Or with a bit of practice you can just use a normal safety blade but however you try and remove the runs, make sure its fully cured. Often you'll need to leave it another day after flatting it and have another go as the exposed paint may still be soft.Gassing Station | Bodywork & Detailing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
