So a few years back I had my DC2 detailed. It went ok until the point the guy wiped off the paint on the rear hatch with an orbital yikes Luckily it was more of a burn than anything else and there was enough there to hide it in the end, anyway on to today...

My new old shed has grown on me sufficiently to wash it biggrin Its a silver Volvo V40 and the paint is a bit rough in places, something I am wondering if I could improve upon? I am thinking of the Megs clay kit then the 3 step thing. Then I read about the Swirl X which might be better given the marks on the car? Then I thought maybe the Sonus clay and Collinite 476 rather than a kit of products.

I have Megs wash and loads of quick detailer as well as washmitts, microfiber etc. Its all by hand and I know it will be hard work and its not going to give DA results, I just fancy having a go at it to make the old snotter a bit more shiny and to have a finish which looks better after it gets rained upon.

Thanks.

Is the paint rough with things bonded to it, or swirl marks?

If it is the former, clay will remove those, but you would need a polish to remove the swirl marks, as per your post ScratchX would be suitable. I usually clay, then use Auto finesse triple for this sort of thing as it cleans the paint and polishes/fills the swirl marks too and leaves a bit of protection (not as much as just a wax though).

If you haven't got anything already have a look at Polished Bliss, I get most of my stuff from there and they have got some good guides too.
